I had it from birth of DS to week 8 and then got it back at about week 12-14. Blah!
We used Daktarin and Canestin for his mouth / my n*pples. The Canestin had to be washed off before every feed though and trying to remember that whilst sleep deprived as well as cringing at the fact you have to feed because it hurts... euhh! it was ridiculous. We also washed everything with vinegar - I would put 1 cap full of washing powder / liquid and then 1-2 caps of vinegar plus fabric softner (to hopefully take a bit of the vinegar smell away). I changed b'pads each feed as well, a fresh one would be put on as soon as DS' mouth had touched the b**b. I also had a stack of cheap aweful nursing bras that I bought from Max (15 dirhams or something) to keep interchanging fequently (think I had 6 all up to get me through the week and washing days). I was also given antibiotics, I cannot remember the name I'm afraid, but they were very expensive. A course for 14 days was 600 dirhams or there abouts.
The thing that helped me pain wise was neurofen, I know that some iboprofen would go through to DS but was advised by Dr's it wasn't much and if he had it in his mouth, it could very well be itchy, the Ibo would provide me pain relief and DS some relief too so I would take 2 every 4-6 hrs or when things were getting better but 1 side was still quite sore, when I knew I would be feeding from that side I would take the tablets about half hour before feeding.
In the end I managed to keep going with b'feeding up until he was 5 months old, but let me tell you if someone had said to me that bottle feeding was OK when I was at my weakest low point at the 8 weeks or so, then I would have stopped right away. I kept going out of guilt more than anything. Wrong to have done I know, but once we finally got over the thrush then feeding became nice and I am happy I kept going. But I still remember the pain as it is like drawing nails on a chalk board for me when I think about it. I hope you get relief soon!!

I had thrush and it hurts; sympathy to you!
This was the treatment I was advised to use by a lactation consultant and it worked, I tell all my friends:
Gentian violet to nipples 2 x a day for a max of 4 days + Canestin ointment to nipples after feeds for 14 days (10 - 14days but advised to ZAP it once and for all) + Nystatin syrup to baby's mouth 4x a day for 14 days (10 - 14days but advised to ZAP it once and for all) + Canestin to baby's nappy area [b'> only if [/b'>thrush has developed there.
Together with:
Frequent hand washing of all family member's and carers' hands, including baby's. (Baby is cuddled, etc. and sucks hands so fungus lives on anyone in contact with baby and on baby's hands. This is how it spreads and recurs so easily.)
Wash all bath towels daily at 60 C to kill fungus on them - for the 14 days of treatment. Also bibs, etc that get baby's saliva on them.
Of course, you should run this by your doctor, but it does work!
Thrush is no fun. Try to get in some naked time and air the girls out. They are trapped in a bra with breastfeeding pads and are moist/damp all the time. That worked for me...hope that helps good luck.
Sorry to hear that...
I thought I had thrush, it was similar pain esp when LO latches...
What I did was, after every feed, I wipe the nip with damn cotton pad. Had to do it for a week..
also, changing the b@@@@t pad regularly helped a lot too.. and the coco butter cream for nip...
I didn't take any medication as the day I was going to, it healed.. lol
hope it gets better soon.

i am currently experiencing my second case of thrush and am gritting my teeth through pain locally on the nipple when ds latches and shooting pains after feeding. i got over the first case a few weeks ago with daktarin (on bub and me) but am now concerned an immunity may have built. i'd appreciate any advice on how you may have coped with the symptoms and eventually kicked it. thanks so much...hoping it wont stick around for much longer as it's starting to really affect my enjoyment of bf ing. poo :(
