I am still feeling very run down from the nausea.. can't wait for this period to be over. I will stick with Dr Maha for a while and see how it goes. Good Luck with everything! ps yep got to hear the heartbeat and saw him/her on the screen as well :)
Ii sure do remember you Maariyah :) we're gonna be Nov moms! How are you coping? Did you manage to hear ur bubs heartbeat on your last visit?
Due to Dr. Mahalakhsmi's busy scehdules when I wanted to see her pertaining my polyp and discharge concerns hence had to try a new doc at welcare knowledge village...
So far so good in terms of consultation and advices. Looks like I won't be doc hunting anymore :)
Helloo, Mrs Ellie we are with the same Doc I think? Ibn Battuta? I got the recommendation off you, I am also 8 weeks and 6 days, just a few days ahead of you! Wow :)
Hey Maariyah, i've had 2 scans/ us too. I'm 8 weeks 1 day today.
My doc today told me to come back in 4 weeks, and i'm already stressing out IF I could wait THAT long not knowing if our beanie is all safe and sound :/
She did advice that a total of 4 scans (from now til month 9) is needed UNLESS the baby has issues.
I am only 12 weeks and have had 3 U/Ss already! I am beginning to get worried as I have my next doctor's appointment in 2 weeks as I am travelling to India. Just wondering, is an U/S required b4 travelling? I wud be only 14 weeks then

I had my first child here, had a visit once a month, and then from the 8th month every 2 wks, and then once a week. Each time i had an u/s. But for about 1 min, no longer, jsut to make sure baby, placenta liquid are fine.
My son is healthy, strong, no food intolerances at all....i don´t know if it affects them, but in our case my son was perfectly normal....
Too many and unnecessary ultra sounds here, I think the reason is money. After I understand that, I refused the ultra sounds.

In the UK, where you only have 2 ultrasounds during a normal, uncomplicated pregnancy (12 weeks and 20 weeks), they use a doppler to check the baby's heartbeat at every appointment. I found that they were actually using the ultrasound just to check the heartbeat during my antenatal check-ups here, which at 180AED a pop is a very expensive overkill!
OK, it's nice to see bubs jumping around (or not, cos they're often not doing much), but yes, I also think that "just in case", it's best to intervene as little as possible in every way.
I'd also add that I don't remember my OB/Gyn here every doing a proper palpation to determine fundal height (or is it length), which makes me think that in fact, they are no longer experienced in anything but a heavy reliance on ultrasound.

Same as starsouthern, i had three total. Once 'staging' at the beginning of the pregnancy, one at 13 week as part of the triple test, and 20 week. I think it definitely depends on the doctor/clinic what they offer, but definitely let them know if you dont want or need all the extra ones.

I had one at 8 weeks then 12 weeks then 20 weeks and haven't had any again. Doc said will only have another one if movements become less frequent or I'm worried about baby.
thanks ladies, i will definitely refuse at my next appointment. Also a very good article Designbabe.
I am wandering if all Gynae's in Dubai just routinely carry out the ultrasounds if not then maybe I should change mine..
kind of scary, I already had 2, one at 8 weeks and another at 12 weeks, next week I will have one at 16 weeks. I actually thought it was nice to have frequent ultrasounds as I can tell the baby is fine, otherwise how do you know?. Some women miscarriage and there are not symptoms, they only catch it during an ultrasound.
I also think they scan too often in the UAE ( I see it more as a money making scheme though)
For my #1 & # 2 I had scans at week 12 & 20 ( this was in Oz).
For # 3 I was in the UAE for first 16 weeks of pregnancy & had 7 ultrasounds.
For # 4 ( again back in Oz) I had just the 2 scans.
If I have another baby,I will only be requesting the 20 week scan( for the detailed pics...lol)
I definately believe they do it too often- with my second I had like an ultrasound each visit.... :\:

while there are no peer reviewd studies yet showing that there is eveidence of harm, its best to avoid unecessary U/S and just stick to the major 3 they require in each trimester.
I now feel guilty that i didnt say no to the frequent unecessary U/S with DS2 as he has a number of food sensitivites and eczema that DS1 never had ( not implying thers is a definate connection but it is something i will never know for sure - DS1 had only 3 scans total - DS2 about 8)
Also DS1 has walked, crawled and talked faster than DS2.......
My advice- definately do only the necessary ones and find a doctor who is agreeble to minimal U/S

Hi Ladies, I am now 8 weeks gone and have had two ultrasounds already.. is this normal practice in Dubai? I think it's a bit excessive and a little worrying as I have read about the debates on performing too many ultrasounds, but was feeling a little anxious about questioning my Gynae, as I don't want to come across as a 'know it all'
