I have this one - http://www.booninc.com/products/PottyBench and it's been fabulous! It used to be available at Just Kidding...don't know if it still is. I originally tried the basic fit-under-the-toilet-seat jobbie but my son, who was a very big boy for his age, just couldn't get comfortable on it and wouldn't sit long enough to get on with the job. The bench was fantastic for him. I've never used it as anything but a potty (ie the side storage and toilet roll holder were wasted on us) but the wide, comfy seat was perfect. It's also not too ugly and lid closed, slid nicely into a corner. Since it will be soon used for the third time with toddler number three, it's also been money well spent. Still looks like new, is dead easy to clean and is rock solid. ETA - I've just looked at the JK website. I can't see the potty bench there, but they do stock other Boon products so may have it in the store or be able to order it in. edited by Green-ish on 11/04/2011

Thank you for the advice Ladies. Had a little giggle at HAK's snazzy bathroom - imagine! :) Got a little toilet seat today but unfortunately does not fit too well onto the toilet so will try a few times and see:) Have a great day!

We were given a really simple one by a friend - when we first got it we were no where near toilet training stage but DD would sit in it every now and then. Now that we are trying to toilet train, she is showing no interest in it at all so I would definitely just go for a relatively simple one. We did let her 'decorate' it with stickers so that it was interesting. We then bought a little step from Ikea and an insert for the big toilet and she uses that....well when I say uses up till now she sits on it for 30secs then gets up and flushes....she is more excited about the flushing part LOL

My two (a girl and boy) skipped the potty stage too thankfully-we just had a footstool in the batroom to help them onto the toilet

I agree with HAK - the simpler, the better! And for boys it's really just for poo anyway. You'll find it easier to get a little step from say Ikea for him to stand on and wee into the normal loo.

follow you gut feel! At the end of the day, it's a tool to get them out of nappies and onto the loo - which, unless you have a [i'>very[/i'> snazzy bathroom, doesn't come with flashing lights and music. DD actually hardly used her potty, mainly due to a crawling younger brother who was very curious and would pester her, and then upend the potty once she'd got up... so we went straight to the loo and have an insert seat that sits underneath the standard seat, so that there's no gaps or holes and it can't tip up. We got it in the UK though (£2.50 at Tescos!), so it's not much help! Good luck!

Hello Ladies, I would like to start introducing my son to a potty and wondered what type to buy. There are the simple ones and the fancy ones (musical, with lights etc). My gut tells me the simple ones are the best - what are your views? Many thanks!
