6 Admirable Mothers Throughout History

Born in Poland, Marie Curie was a physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, and the only one to win twice. But besides all of that, Curie had to raise two daughters on her own after her husband died in a car accident – and handled it all alongside her professional career. Curie believed that science wasn’t the only career worth following.

Truth might mostly be known for being an African-American abolitionist and women’s rights activist, but her fight against a white man to get her son back is what set her on the road to history.

Truth was born into slavery in New York, but achieved to escape with her daughter to freedom. After she found out that her son was illegally sold to a man in Alabama, she sued the man to win later on and recover her son, and become the first African-American to win such case against a white man.

Truth became a Christian preacher in New York City, and was very vocal about women’s suffrage.

It is said that “behind every great man is a great woman,” and that is the case with Abigail Adams; John Adam’s wife.

Because her husband was away from home most of the time, Adams took it upon herself to run the family’s farm, writing letters supporting equal rights for women and the abolition of slavery, all alongside raising and educating 5 children including the future president John Quincy Adams.

Abigail Adams was a mother, a wife, and a “minister of blessing to all human beings” – in her son’s words.
