Pink Delivered An Emotional Speech About Her Daughter During The VMAs

After accepting her Video Vanguard Award during the MTV VMAs, Pink delivered an emotional speech about 6 year-old daughter Willow, and body image; that we all can inspire from.

The 37 years old singer recapped how Willow told her: “I’m the ugliest girl I know”, which left her mummy in shock. When asking about the reason, Willow answered with: “I look like a boy with long hair.”

Pink went on and recalled how she encountered the situation by creating a Powerpoint about rockstars who despite facing body and image shaming, still carried on, and inspired the rest of us; including Michael Jackson, Annie Lenox, Elton John, Prince, Freddie Mercury, and so many others.

Moving forward, after relating to the situation by explaining that “looking like a boy, or having a strong body” is what people use to image-shame Pink. The American singer asked her little daughter: “Do you see me growing my hair? Changing my body? Or changing the way I present myself to the world?”

After the answers came in negative, Pink concluded: “Do you see me selling out arenas all over the world?” Willow – who was listening to the speech from the crowd – answered back then with “Yes, mama.”

Pink wrapped up her presentation saying: “OK! So, baby girl. We don't change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.”

The “SO WHAT” singer ended the inspiring speech by thanking the attendees, MTV, and Ellen DeGeneres who delivered the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Earlier on Sunday the 27th, Pink – whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore – performed a medley of her greatest hits, including the single “What About Us” she recently dropped.
