If you want a plant in your bedroom you need to have one that "breath reversed", like the Mother in law/s tongue also called Snake plant or botanic name Sansevieria. This plant produces more oxygen during night than during day. It is also a very easy maintenance plant and like quite dry soil, so not a lot of watering. It's not as good looking as lily's, but personally, I'll avoid Lily's in a bedroom : for the breathing concept (so more CO2 during night, which is when you are supposed to be in the bedroom) and smell is very strong. Don't know about the feng shui point of view. You can easily find them in any nursery...except they are breaded outside, so might not accomodate well inside where there is much less sun. Dubai Garden Center has some for inside - not all the time though. You might like to see this video : http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/kamal_meattle_on_how_to_grow_your_own_fresh_air.html

So thE Swiss company Saniservice just left my house. They are a top company that specializes in clean toxin free air and are used by hospitals and schools worldwide. Before I left I asked this question:what plants are best for the bedroom? the response: " none of course!" They said if I really wanted plants in the bedroom I must take them out every night.

Oh dear, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Plants photosynthesise during the day, when they use light energy to convert water and carbon dioxide to oxygen. The carbon fixed in this process is what "feeds" the plant, however, the plant also "breathes" just like us ie. oxygen going in and carbon dioxide coming out. During the day, more oxygen is produced than carbon dioxide, but at night there is no light energy, no photosynthesis and therefore a greater output of carbon dioxide than oxygen. Nurses would not waste their time lugging plants in and out of wards without good reason!

Aren't plants bad for the bedroom? Is it true they emit toxins at night? I know also for feng shui they are bad This is an old wives tale, read any basic botany book about how plants "breathe". Quite the opposite, they are good. I find it so annoying when I see nurses still removing them from wards at night. :) As I said, an old wives tale........and scary to hear of supposedly educated people still acting on it. Exactly, Florence Nightingale has a lot to answer for, lol. :)

Another really good plant to have in your house is the spider plant. It is great for helping to clean the air.

The only thing that will survive for weeks without water is a plastic plant!! If you wanting something to go on a side table, then a peace lily is always a good option. They are very hardy, good for the environment and start to wilt when they need water but come back to life after a good drink. HTH.

hi, ladies, we plan to get a pot plant or flower(small pot) and put in our bedroom, so, anyone has experiences, that which is a good choice? i mean, in dubai, hot weather, easy to take care of and not easy to die if no watering for weeks when we r on vacation, with fragrance is a plus, and more important, beatufiful.................. pls recommend the 'perfect' one thx.;)
