Just wanted to say that Cecile is worth her weight in gold. Daughter is now 18months and doing great. We saw Cecile for around a year when she was born. Initially once a week and in the end once or twice a month. She helped with everything from sleeping to very painfull breast engorgement!! She's an angel when you have no close friends and family here and yes she does adjust and adapt her methods depending on how your little one responds. Good Luck.

http://www.facebook.com/cecileds Is it this lady? Would she be able to help DS transfer from crib to own bed and own room? Yes that's her. and yes she'll be able to guide you as to the best way to accomplish that, but the bulk of the work will still fall on you.

hun you may also find that you'll have 2-3 great days and then DD will test the waters again (as you have mentioned below)... it may go on like this for a little while but you'll soon get to wear the skirt (boss pants) again in the family ;) xox

Are you strutting round your house with a smug look appearing on your face every time you see DH?! Slam-dunk :D However, DD's bad habits reared it's ugly head this morning - so it's all a work in progress and tiny baby steps for now!

I'm so pleased you went and it was worthwhile :D. Cecile's method and plan for us is already working on Day 2! And last night we got the longest stretch of sleep ever - 8:30pm - 4:30am (of course i woke up like a lunatic thinking something had happened to DD, whilst in fact she was happily waking and lying in her cot)! Today is a new day and it looks brighter already ;) Are you strutting round your house with a smug look appearing on your face every time you see DH?!

I know. I really felt she was caring. Unfortunately, because of certain factors in my life right now, I cannot implement sleep training. If she is not sleeping through the night in May, I will go see her again. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you start getting some sleep soon or manage to get to Cecile in May.

I'm so pleased you went and it was worthwhile :D. And AD, plumie's right. There's never any judgment and the overwhelming feeling I got was that she really understands just how hard it is sometimes. And by hard I mean hard for us to actually do what needs to be done.

I ought to go back to her. The last time I saw her, she told me to come back once I had implemented the first step. Well, I never could do it and I was too ashamed to show my face to her again. A year later, things are still as bad. :( Don't feel bad or ashamed for one bit!!! And it is never too late! Please do not give up Anon! Schedule the appointment and just do it - go, hold you head up high (not that she would judge you) and start from scratch! I don't think you can have a better person supporting you and being "behind your back" as Cecile! We've only met with her for the first time today, and throughout our meeting i had to hold back the tears as she was just so warm and comforting - i felt i could just let it all out! However, i had to remain composed as one baby crying in her office was enough ;)

Cecile is excellent - she helped me sort my LO out too! Do not know where we would have been without her!

Good luck. My DH took some convincing but it was so worth dragging him along there to get a few things through his male skull. ETA: Not regimented at all, don't worry! edited by DubaiCat on 19/01/2011

Thanks Ladies. DubaiCat, it's reassuring to hear that Cecile "moulds" to the family and the LO and that it's not a regimented approach. Sigh! Time to talk to DH...

I hear you :). Part of the reason we got so messed up was that I spent a fair while at home in the UK and my Mum was the same. I also felt like I had to keep him quiet in the night so he didn't wake anybody. I think mums and mums-in-law often forget what it was like having a young baby and what they themselves did. I also think a generation ago, it was believed that some babies just didn't sleep and you basically had to suck it up, so they don't really 'get' this sleep training thing. I doubt my MIL would go to DS and bring him to me if he cried. I'm pretty sure she utterly neglected her three.

I think I need to call her. It was going so well until my MIL came to stay over and the first night she was here he cried and she went to his room and picked him up. She brought him over to me!!! Anyway I woke up the next day and she gave me this long speech to not let him cry in a dark room. Long story short, he was waking up twice at night and now he's waking up every 2 hours :( AAARRRRGGHH I can't wait till she's gone. If I can't do it again on my own, I'll have to call Cecile. ETA, happy to hear it's working out for you dubaicat :) edited by LuLee on 18/01/2011

And if that scares you we had one night of an hour and a half of on/off crying, 20 minutes (if that) the next night and that was it. I was dreading it and it was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. If we hadn't done it, I'd be in an institution by now.

I totally agree with DubaiCat, Cecile will work with you to determine what is best. We had 2 nights of crying from about 8pm to midnight, with Ceciles help our dd went to sleep so much easier. I really don't know where we would have been without her help!

We are working with Cecile at the moment and she recommended we stay in the room with DS and sit next to his cot patting him and soothing him. The only thing we couldn't do was pick him up. I'm not sure if this counts as full-on 'Cry it Out' but I think Cecile will only suggest what she thinks you can handle and will offer advice based on your individual situation rather than a one-size-fits-all technique. Our son has gone from waking every 45 minutes to waking once so to me, Cecile is a Godsend.

She did come and do house visits and observed her in the afternoon while she was napping but our main issue was in the evening after bath time. She wasn't there then but we just followed her advice. She is really helpful so I'm sure if you wanted her to come in the evenings she would do.

Thanks Alimart. Did she spend some time with you observing your LO? If so, was at night when they were asleep?

Yes I would say she does, she helped us hugely and we used a method of leaving the baby for so many minutes, going in soothing them, leaving them for so many minutes and continuing this but increasing the time intervals. It really really worked for us.
