These stainless steel tongue scrapers might be found in Al Mina also known as (Meena Bazaar). Little India. They sell all Indian items, pots, pans, suits, herbs, spices etc. Not sure of exact road name but just wander around there in the evenings and pop into a stainless steel shop (there are many). All taxi's should know where to drop you off. I usually ask to be dropped off at the Choitram in the heart of it.
If you do not have any luck, then tell me as my folks are coming from the UK and they can pick up a handful and they are cheap. I have one for each member of the family, and sterilise them every two weeks. They are great to wash every day, as you just run it under hot water after you are done.
I have made it a habit with my 8 year old and also my nearly 3 year old. sometime it is hit and miss but I do make sure that they do it at least once a day. I have always used a special tounge scraper that my parents used with me when I was a wee child. They are very popular amongst Asian families in the UK (where I am from). Not seen many here, although I am sure that you can find them in Al Mina maybe. They are made from Stainless Steel and scrapes the whole tongue and it does not even hurt. Feels so clean afterwards. I personally don't think brushing alone helps. Good old fashioned tradition.
Where is Al Mina. I want one of these. I normally clean DD with a muslim cloth (only when they used to drink milk)

Yep!!!
That's what my mamma taught me and I did it with DD1 esp since she was on formula as well.
I brush my own tongue too...... surprised some people dont...it contributes to the bad breath.
I don't have bad breath...

surprised many of you haven't heard of this - its quite common and listed in many baby care books. Its particularly common for children NOT drinking breast milk (ie. formula) as residue is left on their tongues that could lead to a strange smell. Breast milk, however doesn't cause this interestingly. Like the rest, just apply water on a gauze and gently wipe once or twice.
Brushing your tongue as an adult after you brush your teeth prevents bad breath, and prevents your tongue from having a white pasty appearance - ew grose!

again, there are different school of thoughts. some say you should, others you shouldn't. I clean DS' sometimes, by using muslin cloth dipped in war water, wrapped around my finger and gently rubbing it on the tongue. Don't put too much inside the mouth. This is when there is lot of white build up on the tongue (that is not thrush), to remove plaque etc. If there is too much build up, docs use glycerin instead of water. It's upto you!
So, i was just reading a "How to Take Care of a baby" site and it tells me I have to clean my babies tongue. What The?? Has anyone every actually done this? And why?
