It's the LO of a very close friend... I don't want to take any clothes or Photo frames because they already have loads of it. And I don't want to risk giving a toy which she might already have.

Would need suggestions for something really nice and unique for the baby...

I second books.....you can't go wrong and they provide the child a long time of entertainment.

I should mention that its a boy so such girly trinkets would be of no use to the baby. I was thinking of a personalised moneybox or piggybank kind of a thing for the baby, with the pictures of the baby, mum and dad.. More Ideas needed...

My best friend gave my DD a personalised box for her 1st birthday. I use it for keepsake things for her.

How about membership for The Little Gym/Mygym and a trial class? Classic children's books?

Do you have photos of the baby from birth to present day - if so you could get a photo book done of their first year? We did this via Apple recently for grandparents and they loved it and is a nice keepsake - we're thinking of doing one every year seeing as we don't see grandparents as often now we are in Dubai. Not sure where you'd get this done here but am sure you can do online? What about a small piece of jewellery - I got my close friend's daughter a silver bracelet with an initial charm for her first birthday - probably too young to appreciate yet but is something she can keep forever. Oh and on that theme, DD got a beautiful jewellery box for her first birthday (one of those musical ones with the fairy ballerina inside) which we love too. Happy shopping :)

But that would be around AED 850 which is way beyond my budget. I was thinking of something around AED 300 for the baby.
