How long do you have to wait for your prenatal appointments?

Hi Ladies

I am just wondering how long you have to wait for your appointments with your OBN and also for your scans? My actual doctor appointments don't seem too bad, usually if I have to wait it is no more than 20 mins, but for the NT and anomaly scan (not done with my OBN) I have had two really disappointing/frustrating experiences.

I had the anomaly scan today, I was REALLY excited when I arrived, but I ended up having to wait just over 2 hours, which really tainted the whole experience for me. I don't mind waiting for emergencies when they come up, but I really think 2 hours is far too long, particularly given there weren't any emergencies going on (that I could see); I was clearly on my lunch hour; and I was having to ask for updates (only 3 times I might add in the 2 hours - and I don't think I was rude). To be honest, I think the unconcerned nature of the receptionists, bothered me just as much (if not more) than the wait.

I literally work 5 mins drive from the hospital, so if they had said there would be a wait, I would have gone back to work and come back an hour later - no problem at all, I understand these things happen, and I am lucky I have the flexibility to be able to do it. But I asked after about 50 minutes of waiting (quite patient I thought to be honest) and was told there was one more person in front of me. This person came out and they continued to put others in front of me, even though I had clearly expressed I was upset at the continued wait being on my lunch - which I don't normally take - not that I get in trouble with work, but I have a very busy role.

My husband ended up ringing the Chief Executives Office of the hospital to get action (I had asked who to complain to, and they gave me a feedback form to complete), and get me in - but it seems absolutely ridiculous to me that we have to escalate that far before we are taken seriously. I had even requested all my files to be brought to the reception so that if I wasn't getting scanned soon, I was leaving and not returning.

It really did put a dampner on the whole experience for me, given (whilst it was a serious visit to check everything is okay) we were finding out the *** of our baby (little tyke has been hiding till now) - something that should have been quite exciting.

I also felt really bad because another lady came in at exactly the same stage of pregnancy as me, and I probably came across as really rude because I was upset and distracted by the situation - which is not me at all :(

Ultimately, I still came away happy with the actual appointment, she was very professional etc. But it has left me wondering if this is just the 'norm' or if others think this is unacceptable as well?

How long do you wait for appointments, and if you do wait, do they proactively keep you informed? If you do get good service, could you share where this is - just in case I do decide to change...
