I've have aggressive RA for over 10 years. I've seen dr mofti he has his own clinic now and I'm now under dr khan who's at the city and Dubai mall. I'm very happy with her plus I need to go where...
Hi, I've got rheumatoid arthritis as well. Now I'm considering to move to Dubai. However I'm quite scared my new company will not provide a health insurance good enough to cover the expensive meds. I figured since you have quite some experience coming to this disease you might be able to help me regarding a few questions, even though I know every company offers different packages: _Does your hi cover the full medication? Or do you have to pay for it? _Did you find a good doctor? _Do you go for regular check ups as well like blood testing etc? Is it covered? _Do you have an annual limit? What is your experience of how much RA costs you / your hi each year? I know these questions might not be too easy to answer, however I am only diagnosed a couple of months ago and used to live abroad for quite some time. I don't want this condition to stop me of doing this - it's so much more difficult now though. It would be great to hear how other peoples experience is coming to RA and Dubai. Thanks a lot in advance. :D Lisa

Dr Badsha is still in Jumeirah Beach Road at the Jumeirah Beach Plaza. I am very happy with Dr Badsha and she is (or was at least in the past) working closely with a very good physiotherapist in the same building. I can really recommend her and Marcel Schmidt the physio. Good luck, I hope she could help.

Hi Ladies.. I'm digging up a very old post here as i was doing a search, but just wanted to know about Dr. Badsha.. is this the same doctor who has her own clinic on beach road? i had an MRI recently and the results were "arathropathy of the facet joints" the doctor was very vague to explain what that was and just said inflammation of the joints, prescribed me painkillers and that was it. when i read up what Arathropathy is, it sounds like arthritis or maybe the onset of arthritis. I'm quite young still (early 30's) and definitely dont want to end up crippled with back pain. I suffer with severe back pain already at night and really want to see a good doctor to get some proper treatment for my condition. My mother has arthritis too, so it does run in the family so far all the doctors i've seen have not been very helpful or should i said knowledgeable. I find physio and the chiro helps but only temporarily. And want to also make sure seeing a chiro/physio is safe for that type of condition. Dont want to make it worse in the long run If it is arthritis, what sort of treatment do they offer at this clinic? thank you :-)

Hi YRUFAT I have RA and see Dr Humeira Badsha who is great. I did not wish to go down the methotrexate track. However, I had researched extensively the use of antibiotic therapy which I am presently taking with positively excellent results as well as a very modified eating regime and change of lifestyle. If you are interested in joining a small group of RA friends, please let me know. It's nice to meet with people in the same predicament and help each other. I also belong to an alternative/natural RA therapy group and we help each other immensely. Unless you have RA, no one else "gets it". Could you let me know which group you belong to? I've tried a group before but I felt a little left out as I'm 32 years old and all the others were in there 50s. Would be great if I could meet there around my age if there are any ? hi ..have you managed to get to one of the RA groups ..would love to attend ..i am also in my early 30s

Hello, I see Dr Badsha too. I have just been diagnosed with RA in both knees . Because I am needle phobic I opted for the antibiotic course. So far its 70 % better, not so much swelling or pain , although I am now suffering from planta facitis. I am currently taking the low dose steroid as well as the antibiotic and occasionally an anti- inflamatory. Not sure how long i will have to take the meds for, and would love to find a natural solution. I have started taking curcumin and probiotics. Can anyone give me the names of some helpful alternative books, and where I can get them from please.

Years ago I struggled with painful fingers, I would wake up with them all bent over and find it very painful to straighten them and I couldn't open jars/bottles. I was advised to give up instant coffee, what a difference. I no longer suffer from sore fingers. If I go to a restaurant and they give instant coffee, I know about it the next morning. Can you have coffee, for example, from a Nespresso machine (capsule)? Or you have to grind it yourself? Sorry, just seen this. I can drink Nespresso coffee. It is just the granules that you add hot water to that I cannot drink. Instant coffee.

I also see Dr. Badsha and she is great. I was curious about the antibiotics mentioned for RA. What are they and how do you get them?

YRUFAT what effects someone else might not effect you. However if you drink Nespresso why don't you try eliminating it for a week and see how you feel. If you are able to, try eating a very bland simple diet of vegetables/fruit only with plenty of water for a week and see if you notice an improvement. I do not eat citrus fruit with the exception of lemons. It is recommended that you eat no nightshade foods like potato, tomato, egg plant etc. I do eat tomatoes, but only the Roma/plum variety which have minimal acidity. I hope you are able to try this, I'm sure you will notice an improvement. I have lost weight without trying and feel better in myself mentally and physically.

I have spent day and night of the past 14 months reading/researching and it has paid off immeasurably. SuzyDusy, I agree there's so many great books out there for us to help ourselves in order to try and avoid/reduce heavy medication where at all possible. I also could not walk, dress myself, get my pants down to go to the bathroom etc etc. From my experience and many others in my alternative RA groups, what you eat plays a critical role in how you feel. Same goes for drinking water, we drink so much of it in Dubai - the PH balance should be right - I understand that PH 7 is neutral, less than 7 is acidic and greater than 7 is basic. Safe limits are between 6.5 and 8.5. Keeping your body alkaline and not acidic is so important in reducing inflammation. Even when you must take RA medication, I believe trying alternative lifestyle changes to hopefully reduce your meds has got to be a good thing.

Thanks ladies, I am early 40s, and my mother and grandfather had rheumatoid arthritis. My mother has 2 knee replacements, and 1 hip replacement. I did an x-ray at least 8 years ago, and was told that there were signs on arthritis in my hip. But this is not the part that is affecting me right now... my fingers hurt, particularly my index finger, it can be quite painful. Spraying deodorant, perfume, opening a bottle, and even knocking it or catching it hurts. I have not done any RA blood tests, but could it be detected so early, if indeed I have it? Or do I just have normal arthritis. My fingers are not swollen, just sore. Given my family history, I would like to try and knock this thing on the head before it gets too bad. So I am really looking for a preventative route...if this exists??

I no longer drink alcohol, no longer eat meat of any kind, no longer eat dairy products, no longer eat sugar and try my very best to avoid wheat (that's the difficult one to steer clear of). I eat fish, fruit and vegetables, eggs occasionally, brown rice (white if I have to), brown puffed rice cereal for breakfast, rice milk, coconut milk (there's a lovely Kara brand at Organic supermarket which I have in my tea and coffee) - I do coffee but only brewed coffee as the instant variety is a sure trigger for me. Drs don't seem to believe that certain foods can send us into a pain tailspin very quickly. I combine eating an anti-inflammatory foods (great books around) with eating the correct food for my blood group (book available) and the results are outstanding. I also belong to an RA alternative group back in Australia without whose support I don't think I would have come this far. I eat extremely well. My family also follow the same regime basically to encourage and support me as they have witnessed the vicious flares resulting from certain foods, in particular for me is matured cheese/blue cheese. I'm presently in Oz for a few weeks to attend my alternative RA group christmas lunch. There's way too much to write in this forum but if any of you would like to join a few of us here in Dubai that would be great. I posted on this forum recently about this. I went to Patrick Holford's seminar the other day, and he has done loads of research of the effect of foods, vitamins on inflammation and pain so that people can avoid heavy medication - where possible. I just bought the book, but yet to try it: http://www.patrickholford.com/arthritis.

I like Dr. Bassel Darwish. I am taking metheltrexate but it works for me and was the last thing we tried. His clinic is at Health Call and his number is 04 363 5343. I think I have said before, I struggled for about 6 years as no one could diagnose me, with just one look at the way I walk he diagnosed me. Checked it with blood work and he was correct.

I am also seeing Dr Badsha and I am very happy with her. When I told her I want to go off the methotrexate, she changed my drugs without having a problem with it. It is important to know that you sometimes you can't avoid taking drugs. As I am frequently telling people, if you have a choice between taking drugs and not be able to walk, the choice is much easier. Yes totally agree.

I have just been diagnosed with serano negative arthritis and i also don't / wont go down the methotrexate track - would be interested in meeting to see what you are doing that works. To be honest i wasn't that impressed with Dr H - i felt that the only option i was given was drugs - and not really offered any other solution. edited by snowinthesahara on 25/11/2012
