advice for a maid in "legal" trouble and a familial crisis
We have a maid for almost one year now and extremely pleased with her. Her sister worked in Dubai as well and for some mysterious reason that neither my maid or me understand she ended up in jail. It was something visa related with her previous sponsor but to be honest the whole story sounds a bit fishy to us.
My maid dutifully went to visit her sister every morning in jail, hence she came 1 hour late and stayed one hour longer. She paid for all the extra food the sister needed in jail and made all the phone calls to the embassy and police station to try to help. No problem still. Since my maid is a live out maid she pays for her own rent, while the sister was in jail she paid both hers and her sisters.(I didnt know this untill yesterday) I got involved a little bit calling the prosecution last month because after 3 or 4 months of jail time prosecution would get the sister bail if my maid would give her passport as a guarantee she wouldnt run away. I didnt like this so I called prosecution and after a long conversation the next day the sister was free to go without my maids passport as a deposit. No idea if I was any help, maybe its one big coincidence. However, here comes the pickle. My maid was still paying for everything for her sister because her sister claims until her trial that she is not allowed to work. The day I called the prosecution office I asked when the trial would be and they told me it could be a matter of weeks or years, they had no clue. My maid is now getting a bit upset because she has to pay double everything and getting into fights with her sister. She asked me if I could find out if it is true that her sister is not allowed to work for such a long time, how would she live if her older sister wasnt around than? Does anybody have any idea because it makes my maid miserable and after everything she has done now her sister has attacked her yesterday night and scratched her face and tried to strangle her because she said she wants to stop paying. Her face is black and blue and she has a really hard time not falling apart. She doesnt want a day off or any financial help, just legal advice.
