Someone I know is looking for counselling, but does not have insurance that covers psyche. Does anyone know of a good counsellor she can go to who is not charging 600dhs? This is simply not affordable to someone who isn't covered :(

Hey, I know a virtual counseling platform for Mental Health. Fitcy Health charges 300 DHS per session. So overall for 4 sessions in one month, it will cost you 1200 DHS and their first session is totally free! I don't think Johanna Richmond is a psychiatrist though. So she cant prescribe meds. But I would call her and book an appointment anyway - if you can get in to see her sooner than the others. There's also Melanie Schlatter, psychologist. I've been to her, she's very nice.

Hello, if you do a search on this website you will find some other recommendations, but you could start with Dr. Johanna Richmond @ 050 345 8076. Simpleasabc is correct, psychologists are not allowed to prescribe medicines.

You should also check to see if your company (or spouse's company) has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) via your HR manager. Even if your health insurance does not cover mental health, the EAP may provide short term counseling for free (usually up to 6 sessions) either on the phone or face to face (though may have to ask specifically for face to face after initial phone consultation. Worth looking in to. It's a program that generally exists to help employees and their families get through difficult times for short term. *Also to add- some counsellors are willing to reduce fees based on inability to afford full fee. Just ask.
