Without knowing your background it's difficult to know what your minimum standards are. Personally I would go back home if I had to send my children to the cheapest schools here in Dubai, as they would be entitled to good education in schools back home.

I have looked at all the schools in terms of location, tuition cost and so they are at least GOOD rated on KHDA reports. I really do not mind what nationality of the teachers or pupils are in the schools as our budget unfortunately dictates the choice. My reasoning is this - if the school is rated GOOD, the management is western and there are western pupils at the school (no matter how few), that school is worth considering. Would you agree? No I wouldn't agree. I don't mean to be mean or miserable but your 10 year old in particular would potentially have an awful time of things in a school where they are quite isolated. Schools do tend to be quite segregated in some sense. I take your point regarding budget but would strongly strongly advise you to think about looking at travel. KHDA ratings aren't all that important as they focus very much on one curriculum area much of the time and some schools that are rated outstanding really are not. Equally some schools, like Victory Heights, which got acceptable are FAR better than that. Sadly I think VH is out of your specified price range. I think you likely can find the right school but I did feel I should say something about the effect on your 10 year old.

It's a bit stressful and overwhelming looking for an affordable school. I am looking myself for my 3 year old daughter turning 4 in November. Some schools will not accept her age since she is not 4 by September 1st. Others who do are very expensive which I seriously do not understand the big gap on school fees. And it's also difficult to book an inquiry as most require a payment of 500 AED just to visit. Is that the norm? The 500 AED is the registration fee usually, it is not to view the school but to accept your application. The tours of the schools as far as I know are free.

Al Garhoud area is full of schools, my advice make a list of the schools that offer the curriculum you are looking for, give them a call & visit. My cousins are Canadians, they go to Dubai International school, both girls are on the honour's list. Schools experience is different from one person to another, I stay in Sharjah and the options are limited, I visited the two well known Australian schools there but I was put off by their attitude although many people are happy with those schools. We ended up with a school in Ajman, it was a new school when my son started with no reviews, but it was the right school for us. Good luck

Choueifat may be an option. It's a pretty academic school, I think it is decent but has its own system which some people don't like. They have a few branches. It might be worth you considering.

Maybe have a look at Al Salam Private school in Qusais, there is no dominant nationality it's very mix and international following the UK curriculum (IGCSE) but do check KHDA website of all school around your area for feedback, and for next year most schools register in March the latest

You will struggle to find a decent school for less than 25k. You might look into schools that are located in Sharjah because they might be cheaper and you will be close enough on that side of town.

Where are you moving from? Only visited this school once but I would say the resources are really lacking. I would advise to visit before you sign up.

Look at whichschooladvisor.com They have listings with schools in them and if I remember rightly they did a feature on schools at various price points. You are right about the Cambridge school.

my friend's kids attended that school and she had a good experience but both were in secondary school and it was two years back. you should look at khda report to get a feel of how things are at school.
