I contacted Lincoln Medical, the company which makes the Anapens. I found the reply reassuring. I sent the initial enquiry to Vetter Pharma as the pens were made by this company under license from Lincoln. "Thank you for your enquiry sent through to Vetter Pharma regarding ANAPEN devices and their recall. Lincoln Medical Ltd are in fact the approved license holders for ANAPEN products globally and the ANAPEN products were first approved by the MHRA in London in 2001 and subsequently by local national regulators in other countries including France. Please be advised that there is no recall in France at all and indeed there is no recall in numerous European countries. The recall issued in the UK was an advisory, it was based on a caution related to work being done during development of a new device and it indicated that people should keep their currently held ANAPEN until they were able to obtain to alternative products as replacements. Given that your child has 2 devices we can categorically state that you should not be concerned about the situation but please ensure that 2 devices are available for use at all times. We are very sorry that you have had reason to be concerned about this issue and apologise for the inconvenience and any distress caused. For the record we have supplied during the last 10 years 4 million units of ANAPEN, we have batch release tested in that time circa 26,000 of built out devices and we have never had a device failure."

I went to the Dnata/emirates holiday pharmacy yesterday to pick up my new Anapen. I got given two as the they were aware of the problems with the injectors and told me to use both if the first one did not work within 5 to 10 minutes. They also told me I would be notified once they had the Epipens back in stock to replace the Anapens. So I guess it is a worldwide problem and not just in the UK...

Exactly AR, that's what I mean, it is not worldwide, that's why I am not jumping the gun here so to speak. :)

Sorry, I'm probably going overboard with links now but I have the contact details of the German manufacturer of my pens. [url=http://www.vetter-pharma.com/contact'>link[/url'> I've also had a look at their press releases and there's nothing about a recall. I think if there was a danger with the pens it would be mentioned here.

Still googling and found the manufacturer's contact details. There's a number in the UK you can call so maybe a family member could call. I've emailed them. I do think it's only certain batches of pens that are affected. [url=http://lincolnmedical.co.uk/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=2%3Ainformation-contact&catid=11%3Ainformation&Itemid=2'>link[/url'> Sorry can't seem to get the hyperlink thingy to work.

I've started googling this and found the following. It seems to be that certain lines are affected. [url= http://www.dispensingdoctor.org/content.php?id=2074'>link[/url'> not all anapens. I'm going to contact the manufacturer and check. However, I would prefer to refund BM who bought the pens from me. So BM, please get in touch with me. Anapen recall Potential drug delivery problems identified By Ailsa Colquhoun 25th of May 2012 Anapen (Lincoln Medical, adrenaline (epinephrine) autoinjector) is subject to a Class 2 recall (action within 48 hours). The affected lines are: • Anapen 500 micrograms in 0.3ml solution for injection in a pre-filled syringe (PL 18813/0003) • Anapen 300 micrograms in 0.3ml solution for injection in a pre-filled syringe (PL 18813/0001) • Anapen Junior 150 micrograms in 0.3ml solution for injection in a pre-filled syringe (PL 18813/0002) The recall is a precaution, due to potential problems with delivery time and volume of the dosage identified during development work. In the worst case scenario, this could result in a failure to deliver any adrenaline at all in an emergency situation. Dispensing contractors are requested to contact any patients prescribed these products, and advise them to see their GP or clinic as soon as possible.

AR, Hello :) It's a precautionary recall of ALL pens, but only advised by UK - so if you lived in France (or here) you would be possibly unaware of it. That's what I mean. Do we all dispose of them because the UK has recalled them, or not? http://www.allergyuk.org/news/latest-news/post/24-recall-of-anapen-adrenaline-injector

So have all the pens been recalled? Dh got ours in France and at the same time my sil from France also sent some over and I advertised them on here for sale as we had extras. I've only just read this thread in full now and have emailed the buyer as I'd like to refund the money.

What is everyone doing about this then? Particularly interested to hear from those Mums who are not from the UK (as it has only been recalled in the UK). If you are from elsewhere, what do you intend to do?

I have just been to City Hospital who have stocks of Epipens. If you purchased your Anapen from them I think they will exchange it for an Epipen, otherwise if you have a prescription they will issue the Epipen. I decided it was not worth risking my life on a dodgy Anapen for the sake of spending 425dhs on an Epipen (although I bought 2 to be extra safe!!) Emirates hospital only have Anapens and cannot exchange them for about 3-4 weeks when they are expecting replacement stocks. HTH

I think health authorities would be aware of the recall here, but probably wouldn't do anything about it, as it is only the UK who have advised the recall. All other European countries have not. So it is a bit of a tricky situation. Do we all rush out and buy Epipens instead? If it were a very worrying situation, wouldn't all countries recall? But do you chance it, it's not worth it! argh.

Thanks Missymop, I've found it now and yes both my pens have the same PL number, they are from different countries an have different expiry dates on so I'm guessing all pens are being recalled!!! I have one that's gies out of date beginning if June and one beginning of August so I will just try and replace mine now anyway. I think we need to be super vigilant if buying them here as they most possibly won't be aware if this recall!!! I'm goin to speak to Doctor Loubser at Infinity Clinic and see if he has any info on this.

PS - also worth noting that it is only the UK that has recalled them, no other countries. Not sure if that changes anything.

I also found this The voluntary recall affects all doses of Anapen® and relates to a potential problem with delivery time and delivery volume of the dosage following activation of the auto-injector which has been identified during development work by Lincoln Sorry but I think this will be ALL Anapens. Argh.

Sorry, not been on to reply! The PL number is on the barrel of the pen, in the blurb of bullet points, starting about not using after expiry date, how to store etc. on my pen it is next to the picture instructions but you will have to turn pen to point upwards to read as text is in different direction. ( clear as mud!!) Hth I usually get mine from Emirates hospital. I have not been able to get a replacement yet as I am still waiting for a repeat prescription before I can collect. I will need to re-read the article as I was hoping for the Anapen rather than epipen as the expiry dates are usually longer!

MissyMop, please can you report back re the codes. Yes that's what's worrying me too, no proof of purchase and no hope of getting any refund. Doesn't that mean that anyone could produce anything, and then just "recall" it. Humph.

PS, for everyone buying replacement Epipens, you need a Dr prescription even for Emirates Hospital.

Thats what I thought when I read it but then Missymop threw my by saying all hers had the code to be recalled on !! Also does by being recalled does this mean they will replace them? Thats not going to happen to me as I have 2 from Ireland and one from the Motorcity Docs here and really cant see them replacing them !!!!

Yep, read it again and still think the same. Those are not serial numbers, they are the different types of Anapen and they are ALL being recalled. No?

Thank goodness it is not just me. And from reading the article, it read to me that ALL Anapens were being withdrawn. And those were the TYPES of Anapen rather than batch numbers? Better read article again.

Purple, thank you. I am being thick, but looking at lots of different numbers on mine and they don't match the sequence/pattern of those below. where did you find the serial number on the pen/box?

I don't understand this. Is this regarding specific batches or ALL pens (which is what the article seems to suggest?) What happens if you have the pens but no proof of purchase? the ones with the specific numbers mentioned (so any others should be fine): Anapen 500 micrograms in 0.3ml solution for injection in a pre-filled syringe PL 18813/0003 Anapen 300 micrograms in 0.3ml solution for injection in a pre-filled syringe PL 18813/0001 Anapen Junior 150 micrograms in 0.3ml solution for injection in a pre-filled syringe PL 18813/0002 <em>edited by Purple on 25/05/2012</em>

Bumping up! My three pens are on the recall list as well. Does anyone know of a Dubai Hospital that have EpiPens or Anapens in stock so we can get replacements? I usually bring mine back the UK, but i'm not back now until July.
