Hi Ladies!

Have sent a cheque to a company which they have been "Unable to locate" despite having been able to "locate" all of the other items which were sent in the same envelope!! I now have to send them a replacement cheque but want to cancel the original one first. Have tried asking the bank how to do it but have spoken to 3 different people and couldn't get a straight answer out of any one of them!

Anyone on here know the procedure?

TIA! :)

Dear all , be very careful , safi tried to cancel a cheque despite this he eneded up with a 3 year sentence. His 2 daughters are outside in the cold in front of the uae embassy in london. they have started to protest against his 7 year sentence. the uae laws relating to bounced cheques are not being followed correctly. Please pass on to everyone as these giels are very brave . It is very cold in englkand and they have been outisde the embassy for 4 full days....his little 10 year old was making up chants yesterday and she said ...ïf you bounce a cheque in Dubai you better go to the airport and fly""....It does NOT pay to do the right thing. These cheques are dangerous.. see www.justiceformydad.com and pass this onto to all you know...2 court reports show that he has paid the money so why is he in jail???????????

Thanks guys. Its a health ins company and we have not been dealing with them directly but through a broker. i have told the broker that i wont send another cheque until i have managed to cancel this one as I dont trust the company not to suddenly find the old cheque and cash both (as some of you have mentioned) and that as its the companies mistake, they're just going to have to wait for as long as it takes. The broker has said he's pretty sure that this wont happen but iv been here long enough to know not to trust anyone when it comes to money!! Gutted (but not at all surprised) that its not going to be a simple task! Really cant be bothered, i have way more interesting stuff to do with my time! Oh well! Grrrrr!!!

Hi LMAO. You can't just go to any police station. You need to go to the one that either that company is in, or, if you met someone in person to give them the cheque and other items, you have to go to the police station in that area. We had to do this when we were on the receiving end of an NSF cheque. The cheque was given to hubby at Dubai Mall, so we had to go to the big Bur Dubai police station. I'm not sure if you can call any of the stations (translation - if they'll answer), but here's a list of police station in Dubai and you could try: http://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae/dp/english/e_services.jsp?Page=A26&orgn=CON

Under no circumstance give them a new cheque without cancelling the one they have 'lost'. Have you told the company you won't give them a new cheque without cancelling the old cheque? I have a feeling they will miraculously find the 'lost' cheque. We did this once and they cashed both cheques! Luckily I only use that particular account for cheques and didn't have any other money in the account so one bounced and I eventually go the old cheque back. Unfortunately here you cannot just cancel a cheque with the bank. Contact the company that lost the cheque and explain to them you are not willing to hand over a new cheque without getting the old cheque back or cancelling it. I suspect they will find you lost cheque.

You need to go to the police - probably will need a letter from teh company saying they lost it.
