Ok - me and my DH are planning a holiday to Bali this year - has anyone been and can advise good beach resorts were we can stay - and also best time of year to go?

I would highly recommend to choose a private villa over a hotel... you have complete privacy with own swimming pool .... the websites such as balivillas.com is good. We usually go end of June/early July and the weather is similar to the 'winter weather' of Dubai... As for the Bali-Belly - I would not buy drinks that has ice in if it is not in a reputable hotels/bar/cafes (such as a small stall ...) Bring the hand sanitizer with you at all times ... and make sure what you eat is all properly cooked. If you follow this, there is no need for Imodium! Depending on how long you plan to go - you can do the following: A - a few nights in Seminyak - great area with great restaurants at walking distances to the beach and entertainment B - a few nights in Ubud - artistic town, middle of the rice fields, green and beautiful. Do your white water rafting here (watch what you eat over lunch - and bring those sanitizer along with you :))) C - Lovina/Menjangan (North of Bali) for Diving/Snorkling purposes C - Candi Desa - East of Bali - Diving/Snorkling and just gorgeous... Restaurants to visits ... Made's Warung (the original one) in Kuta Cafe Des Artis (Ubud) of course Kudeta and Rock Bar (Ayana Resorts - in Nusa Dua - what used to be the Ritz Carlton).... need anymore info let me know .... Bali, my 2nd home :D

Hi Ive been to Bali a couple of times. First time we stayed in Sanur which is very quiet. Second time I stayed in a lovely private villa with butler, cook, driver etc in the Jimbaran Hills. Booked through www.balivillas.com, which I would defo recommend, they were great and so helpful, especially as I was holidaying alone. Also stayed at the Intercontinental which is beautiful, but food and beverages are very pricey, but again this would depend what you are looking for. Ubud is more central but fantastic if you enjoy activities, cycling, yoga etc. Kuta is lively and a great place to visit. I want in September and July and the weather was great both times. No health issues either!

Villa Jerami has individual, totally private villas with pool and butler to make breakfast every morning. Plus you get a his and gers massage, trip around the island and it's close to beach etc. we had the best holiday ever. We went in November and it rained once because we were at the rainy end of the island at the time.

Hello there, What is your budget? There are loads of places to stay, and many villas which you can rent which come with staff, if you prefer more independence and all. Nusa Dua is on the southern end. It is a big resort area, so you are not near any action per say and have to drive quite a bit to see many other parts of the island. Depends on your preference. Jimbaran isn't far from Kuta and has the lovely Four Seasons Resort. Seminyak area is very popular with many smaller hotels and lots of eating out in the area. Some try to avoid this area as it can be hectic but most of the nicer hotels are an oasis in the midst of this. How long are you planning? I would divide my time in 2 places. Jimbaran/ or Seminyak to start, then head to Ubud for the latter (or vice versa). Just mix it up and take in different feelings and therefore when you go out sight seeing to aren't spending all the time in a car and traffic. Summer months are perfect or say May - Oct. Less humidity and a little breezy. The beaches are nice, but not always the cleanest. The beaches at the most southern end are my favourite but again, don't expect it to be always really clean. Have fun planning!

The Intercontinental is a lovely resort. Hyatt is an old property however the rooms are ok and the staff are lovely. There is plenty to do around the hotel. The Grand Hyatt is a large resort however not too much around. The Holiday Inn in Kuta is a good property new and a nice beach. I have been a few times and love the island.

We have been there a few times, and our last trip was last August. The weather was perfect for us. Due to diving, we did a tour around the island for different diving spots. In Kuta, we stayed at the Holiday Inn which was much better than expected. At the end of the trip, we stayed in Nusa Dua at The Laguna Resort & Spa, it was alright, but be careful of moldy rooms though. Tripadvisor really gives detailed reviews of the hotels, great source of reference.

We went in May and it was ok. Rain showers but nothing to wreck a holiday. We stayed at Legian Beach, plenty of hotels to choose from, nice beach. We were thinking of staying in Kuta where there is a lot going on. We must have been lucky as we didn't get ill at all. I was never interested in going to Bali but BIL got married there. I loved it!
