I am taking my mum to Muscat over Eid for a break, and thought I would treat her to a bbq on the beach lol Any suggestions as to which beach is nice for this idea, I am of course presuming its not like Dubai and bbq's are banned!

Just down from the Intercontinental, there is a little shopping area called Shatti al Qurm (I think) with a small Sheraton Resort hotel with Irish bar right on the beachfront. Facing the sea, if you walk to the left you come to a beach kiosk with tables and sofas on the beach itself - fabulous fresh BBQ-ed fish and meat, salads etc. really really cheap and saves you the trouble of doing it yourself!
