Yesterday, befor Iftar time, very clean, crisp white clothed Pakistani man knocked on our door, DH answered the door and the Pakistani man started telling DH a sob story about he is the imam of the next door mosque, his wife passed away leaving 3 children with him, and his employer - he said the charity that operates the mosque- gave him 3k to repatriate his dead wife, but he needs another 3k to pay for the death certificate of his wife and pay the cargo for his dead wife, he asked us to give him this cash as he is travelling tomorrow - now it should be tonight - to pay the cash....
Being stupid enough we asked him to leave his contact number and his name, first of all I called the police to ask if they can give me information about how much it cost to pay for obtaining the death certificate, the police told me that office open only morning times! Which is not what the alleged grieving man said that he will be at the station by 8 pm to obtain the certificate!
Then went to the mosque he said he is the imam of, and met the imam himself and told me he is the appointed imam by the authority of Islamic affairs and there are no person with this name or nationality works in this mosque!
Any way I called the hotline for reporting beggars 800 243 and left a message with his name, number and the story....
To my surprise, the dude come back to our home! Called the police 999 and they took his info...
Ladies beware, this is the new scam, dead wife needed to be taken home to be buried, and when you ask the right questions the dude will start crying to stop you asking the questions and start comforting him....
He looks very clean that even his footwear is brand new, wears glasses and a head thingy maybe to camouflage his appearance, with clean crisp neatly ironed Pakistani clothes....
How do I know he is Pakistani? He said he is Pakistani and showed us a Pakistani ID
