Thanks, polly. It's good to hear that the British consulate is helpful. I lived in Bangkok for three years and Phuket one year, and the British and Canadian embassies there are horrible for service.
I have no idea, but the British Embassy in Dubai is really helpful and it might be worth giving them a call or popping down to see them. If you do go down in person, please don't forget your passport!
Hi all. I need a bit of help or advice. My husband is working in London and there's a good chance that he'll be kept on and transferred to the UK branch of the company. I'm still living in Dubai but we're trying to organize me coming to live in the UK. I can get a 6 month visit visa from the airport on arrival, but we both want me to apply for residence with the ability to work here.
I'm Canadian and one of our friends suggested that I go to the Canadian High Commission here in London. I thought about it, but I think the Canadian HC would be more of help to someone who wants to move to Canada. So, which would be more painless, easier or more logical of the two? Go to Foreign Affairs here, or, on my return to Dubai in November, go to the British Consulate?
I know it's a bit complicated, but these things usually end up being like that. Just a note - my husband is not Canadian nor British.
