Hi Diamond Girl, I would be very interested in talking to you or anyone else about Dr. Wu (Hong Kong) or any other recommended bunion surgeons. Thanks so much.

Ladies. I just read all the threads regarding bunion surgery. Last June I did op on my right foot here in Dubai. 6 months later bunion returns and I'm in even more pain. Dr wanted to fuse my two toes together which limits mobility and types of shoes you can wear. I'm not ready to wear Clarks for the rest of my days! I have just returned from Hong Kong. Dr Wu is a specialist in bunions and does a non breaking technique. My previous 9cm scar went keloid and this time I have a tiny 2 cm scar on my left foot and Dr Wu also did scar revision on my right. He did have concerns correcting the failed surgery but he was able to perform his technique despite the toe being shorter and the 2 screws. I am walking about on special shoes which is better than crutches and a boot. The recovery is slow and steady but there is no shoe/activity limitation after 6 months. I am happy to share more information if need be. I am post op 3 weeks and in absolutely no pain at all. I do foot exercises every day and looking forward to driving next week and getting into the gym to start light exercises on the recumbent bike and with my trainer.

Hi Nadiya, Did you end up having the surgery here in Dubai? If not yet, I can provide you with some information, as I had it done (twice over) after a certain doctor made a mistake and it had to be redone by someone else.... Anyway, am interested to see how you went. Hi bfh2006 - could you please provide me info as to whom you ended up having the 2nd surgery with and did it actually go well - I read the details in your thread, but I assume that the issues like your toe being shorter occured due to the 1st operation going wrong and not because of the 2nd - would love to know about the surgery and surgeon, costs etc.

Hi AriVW, Sorry, I didnt realise that you had posted something here for me.. Unfortunately,I have not as of yet had a surgery...I am petrified BUT I know if I continue without a surgery there will jus b an increase in pain and the bone will reeally get worse.. I have tried going on many sites - there seem to be more +ve threads on EW then negative on this so I do feel that there is light at the end of the tunnel. BUT we need to go to someone who has been well recommended and has had a good results with most patients. problem in dubai is that not many ppl live here and hence there will only b a few on EW that will have had an op here with the same surgeon. I was told to opt for a orthapedic surgeon rather than a podiatrist...im still searching and would love to keep in touch with you if you in case you or I opt for an op so we know which surgeon etc to go to.. Im now thinking of having surgery but only end of this year due to work issues.. good luck and let me know if you wish to keep in touch - that way, if i hear of anything I will keep u informedxxx

Found out that Dubai Bone and Joint Centre in Health Care City has a new specialist surgeon, she is a foot and ankle orthopeadic surgeon. I know they do their surgeries in either Welcare, the American, The Canadian Specialist or City hospital. Good luck

I would not really recommend anyone getting this operation done, unless you experience a lot of pain and discomfort without it... I was vain and thought Dubai was the perfect place to get this done under insurance as back home this is elective surgery and the wait could be long. Anyway, I made an appointment with an ortho who told me this was a piece of cake and I would be able to wear high heels again in 4 weeks. So, the op went ahead and at all the follow up consultations he seemed really happy with the progress and results. When after 3 months my foot was still very swollen and sore, I went back to the hospital and was told I could not see my surgeon, as he was no longer with the hospital. I then got appointment with other ortho there, new xrays were made and these showed that the op did not go well. The procedure they used was 30 years outdated and new surgery was required, although no guarantees were given. Had the 2nd procedure now 7 weeks ago, where they placed metal plate as well at 5 screws in my foot. Big toe is now nearly 1 cm shorter than previously and my big toe appears lifted from the ground. Having lots of physio, but with only limited results. On monday I have visit to surgeon again....so NO, would def. advise people to not have it done and def. not in Dubai!!
