We used Discovery; they were ok. I would use them again but I think that your choice should revolve more around the individual branch you are collecting from than any company. This is because the quality of your trip all depends on 1) Preparation/cleanliness of the particular vehicle you collect 2) Orientation to the workings and driving of said vehicle by handover staff 3) Attention to detail by handover staff on extras ordered etc Once you are out in the bush it is sometimes difficult to get phone reception for assistance (well we found this to be true), so you are better off in a newer model with a rubbish company than an older one with a plush company. Basically once you leave, you are on your own! If you aren't sure how the lights charge at night etc you are pretty much stranded! Our handover branch (Adelaide) forgot a whole lot of stuff, gave us extra chairs which we couldn't accommodate (only discovered once miles out), a broken tv and kettle etc etc We did complain en route and then on destination but nothing could be done until we got to destination one week later! I would just go for the best deal with the newest vehicle I could since both of the big companies use outsourced vehicles anyhow from what I understand. Look out for comprehensive insurance inclusion. HTH :) Enjoy your trip, we loved ours complete with all the mishaps! PS we had no trouble with late berthing as per dorset diva, but I do agree on the travelling into town difficulty - should be easier with a smaller berth vehicle but still an issue.

We did this many years ago, we drove from Cairns to the Gold Coast. Although a campervan has plus points, especially with youngsters, there is a real downside. You usually have to be a the campsite before 4pm, to birth. Then once there you are stuck!! If you want to visit the town or tourist attraction, not only is it a pain to unhitch the van from the electric and sewage line, but you have the problem of trying to manouver the damn thing around the town and then park. It became such a hastle that we ended up staying on the campsites and missed out on a whole lot of tourist attractions. IMHO its so much easier to hire a car or even mini van and stay in motels enroute. We found an in-bound tour operator to plan our holiday. They were super efficiant and everything was well organised. They asked what we and the kids were interested in and planned a route and attractions along with all the tickets so all we had to do was show up. There are many in-bound op's if you go onto the Aussie web sites. They will arrange the campervan also if its what you want to do.
