I had a great experience with Ryan recently at DIFC Toni&Guy. Great new English hairdresser who spends time to get to know what you want. Very talented hairdresser who did highlights and a lovely cut for me with a great blowdry. He also cut my husband's hair - a fade cut which he did with skill and ease. He doesn't mess around, he's quick and I would recommend him to anyone.

Try Cut Above, 1st Floor, Jumeirah Centre. Really nice salon, Jackie (English) does great colour and cutting too. If you need a Mani/Pedi can't recommend Alma highly enough! I went there for a while but i didnt like have stopped going now as my hair is a mess (and it cost me 750 aed for the privelege), although Jackie does not do mine, am in need of a super fab reasonably priced hairdresser too.

I also need a colour and some highlights. I live in The Lakes and wouldn't want to travel too far if possible. Can anyone recommend a decent place which is reasonably priced? Thanks. HI Cathski, i go to Formul'A hair academy in Knowledge Village building 11. Ask for Sam, she is one of the lecturers at the academy. She is amazing. i have been in dubai for 10 years and hated my hair for most of it until i found sam.

nat123 replied : PLEASE do not go to Davids Salon! I recently started working near Burjuman so decided to try Davids for highlights following the recommendations on EW - HUGE mistake! The hairdresser firstly ignored my request for a half head and gave me a full head and then proceeded to rub pure peroxide into my roots! Not surprising my naturally brown roots turned orange. Went back to have it corrected and after 1st colour they were still orange so another colour was out in my hair which turned my entire head of hair yellow! First time in 15 years of getting my hair coloured that Ive walked out of a salon in tears. Have been going to Yvonne @ Hairworks JBR ever since to try and sort the mess out! She is fab and hair is finally starting to look back to normal after 7 long weeks of weekly visits!! Moral of the story - DO NOT GO TO DAVIDS! edited by nickyschick on 14/07/2011 edited by nickyschick on 14/07/2011 Oh wow sorry to hear that, I never had a problem and I went there for about 2 years. Jade was so great, she did EXACTLY as she was told and I was always happy with her, but she left in March. I've been meaning to get a hair cut so I guess it's time to look for a new stylist.

Pastels are very professional and honest. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. I tried sisters and was very disappointed!

Not sure if you still need suggestions - but i go to Version Francaise in Dubai Marina. Love them. I use a girl called Kate. And Feri is great too. My daughter went to Kate last year, just for a trim, and it was fine. More recently, she went back and asked for a specific style and had a lot more cut off than she wanted. It was a complete disaster, uneven lengths all over her head, she looked an absolute mess for a couple of months and it's only just beginning to look a bit more normal now.

I used to go to David's Salon near Bur Juman. Haven't gone there since Jade left though, not sure about any of the other stylists, but the salon comes recommended by EW.

Not sure if you still need suggestions - but i go to Version Francaise in Dubai Marina. Love them. I use a girl called Kate. And Feri is great too. A bit expensive on the cuts depending on the stylist. The salon is owned by Alex and Karine and they cut too and are supposed to be great. Though i'm quite happy with my stylist so have stuck with her. She's changed my style a few times from long to short to the horrid interim phase and kept my hair looking great, so i'm a believer :). Colour there is very reasonable, they charge by the amount you need rather than length of hair and i've never paid more than 250 for full colour for longer hair and 400 for full highlights. Overall if you do a cut, colour, highlights and a blow dry, you'll wind up paying the same as you would in any other bigger salon in Dubai and i find them much better than the ones i've tried. They use Kerastase n Redken and have some fab treatments too.

You'll find some recommendations here http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=150657. I went to Louise at Style and Class London, in the Jewels Building in the Marina and will certainly be going back.
