Hi,

Looking to buy a used car from private seller in Abu Dhabi. Car is AD registered currently. I am Dubai based and will need to register it here.

Is this straightforward or a complicated process to do?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Because you are changing the emirate the car is registered in, it will have to be "exported" from AD and "imported" into Dubai. It's less than 10 years old, yes? If a car is over 10 years old it can only be re-registered within the same emirate it's currently registered in. The basic procedure is that you go to the AD traffic department with the seller and they have to go through the formalities of exporting it, during which they have to take off the AD plates and put export plates on it. Then you drive it to the Dubai traffic department near MoE and import and register it. The export plates come off and Dubai plates are put on. When you go to AD to complete the sale and take possession of the car, you'll need your passport, driving licence and valid insurance documents. Best to check with the RTA about current requirements though.

no, it's not complicated. you need the proper papers about you bought the car ( be sure there is no bank loan on that) your residence visa and something else I don't remember because my husband was followiing all that.
