Servants quarters... that must have changed the minds of a lot of us .... After reading this thread I was just wondering a few things: Wht is the big deal with designer stuff?? If It lasts 10 years.. well who uses the same bag day in and day out for 10 years!!! I would rather get something from ALDO and change it to something new after 4 months! Plus the designs are not that great..well not aLWAYS!!. maybe its jsut me but honestly.. I ve seen better styles and colors at "regular brands" stores. I just got a great bag for Dhs 75 from ALDO on sale... DH says it look a lot better than the coach my brother got me a few months back!!

So it comes down to individual Ethics? Not even that, given that the people who refuse to buy fakes on principle will be buying plenty of other things that are unethically-produced. And I wonder how many people who refuse to buy fakes for "ethical" reasons are quite happy to watch illegally-downloaded TV programmes and movies etc?

You are supporting child/slave labour by shopping at some full priced stores too! Exactly. Every single one of us living in this country, toting 'real' handbags or not, is profiting from slave labour. Who do you think built your villa, does your maintenance, cleans the malls, sweeps the roads etc., It is pretty hard to stand on your ethics here and follow them through in all aspects of your life, when people are being exploited right under our noses. so what you are saying, one more "wrong" is ok... Not at all, and I don't own a fake handbag for my own reasons. I am saying that there is exploitation all around us, but because the exploitation of child workers in the fakes industry is talked about and not in our backyards, more people seem to be able to back this cause. How do you think that shops like Forever21 can sell things so cheap and still make a profit? Just to add, in case you didn't know, that you can get arrested/fined in certain European airports for carrying a fake designer handbag. Is it worth the risk? I think that is just Paris? Italy is red hot on stopping people at the border, especially road crossings, people doing day trips into France to buy replicas and then they get them confiscated at the border. Italy is protecting their designers or so they say it wouldn't surprise me that the border police confiscate them and then resell back to the market traders.:\: P.S. This is not giving an opinion on the rights or wrongs of replica goods - just stating some facts. BTW beware of scam/internet replica company this is the real site www.hollisterco.com this is the fake http://www.hollisterukshop.com/ I know of many who have bought goods from the fake site thinking it was the real one and are now trying to get their money back through credit card insurance etc. edited by Dally on 23/01/2011 i gave up on repeating this info here on EW....it seems it falls on deaf ears...mb when they get stopped at the border crossing it will ring a bell.

There are some cowboys there though that push Cr** on people, i rememebr when i first ever went i was really scared, getting taken down alleys and into apartments, it was a shocker, i love it now, all our visitors always want to go when they come over and my watch and bag man has become a friend of mine Lol

I've bought dozens of bags in Karama and all have been of fantastic quality. You basically get what you pay for. I've been going to the same guy for 6 years and he always gives me a good price and assurance if anything goes wrong with the bag, he will exchange for me. I have two genuine fake Chanel bags, and they have lasted very well. Both are leather and considering how often I use them, hardly a mark on them. Even my friend who wouldn't be seen dead with a fake, was really impressed by the quality. For a decent medium size leather bag, expect to pay from 300-350AED upwards. There is definitely room for bargaining on the price. I never had much luck at Karama. The bags I bought were shocking quality, lasted only 2-3 months with sparing use. Karama makes me laugh, the guy i go to has 2 types fake and genuine fake Lol, i have 2 bags an LV and a Chanel, i swear you cant tell the difference i went into the shops and checked them out spot on, like someone else said each to their own, if you can afford real good on you, if you cant, then so be it, paid 500 each for mine by the way :) Bet people go shopping in the Souks down Deira where do you think all that stuff comes from and Carefour allthe cheap purses handbags clothes, pashminas, certainly not from a reputable designer !!!

I was not preaching or trying to give anyone a morality lesson. I used to buy fakes until I read on another thread on here a while ago that buying fakes is a punishable crime in some countries and ignorance is not a defence. I just wanted to pass that information on in case anyone reading this didn’t know too. Now I find saving up for the real thing is so much more satisfying. And for the record I also use an agency maid! In my opinion some things are just not worth the risk!
