Do I confine my kitten who has worms?

Not had to deal with worms before ... I'm taking her to the vets tomorrow, but in the meantime should I confine her to a room? It's quite gross seeing the tiny white things dropping out of the little kitty's bottom and even more gross to think where else the worms have fallen that I haven't seen and cleared up!

How long does it normally take for the worms to clear up once I've been to the vets and got her on the correct meds?

TIA.

OK, thanks for the info SueB. The main reason for confining her was because there appeared to be a lot of worms working their way out of her, and I didn't really fancy the idea of dead worms all over our apartment! She's just got some drops from the vet nurse, with another lot to administer in a month. Thanks for all your help - I know it's just a case of worms, which is so common and not serious, it's just I've not dealt with them before. :)

I have had loads of foster cats pass through my house plus my own and so far have not picked up any worms....but it certainly will not hurt you if you do :)...once they know what worms the kitten has. She will pass the worms quickly and kill the active ones now, it does not kill the eggs so another course will be had within 2 weeks and possibly another. the ones she passes in the next day or so will be dead from the pills....anyway, talk to you vet about it. I honestly have never isolated any of the cats with worms after the 1st kill..... btw, ring worm is a skin fungus not actual worms. Have the vet do a black light scan.

Thanks ladies. I just feel sorry for the poor little girl (she's only a kitten) being confined to a tiny room. I'm sure they will clear up quickly once we have the treatment though. Always washing hands and will make sure to wash cushions, etc, too. Someone mentioned that my OH and I should take a worming tablet too - not heard this one before - is that really necessary???

Not ring worm or tape, they will be round worms, very common in kittens. Yes confine and get treatment from a vet and wash everything for a few weeks. Make sure everyone in house washing hands after touching kitten as routine. Will need several doses of wormer a few weeks apart to clear. Not a big deal and easily treated.

sounds like tapeworm but the vet will confirm. The worms dry up quickly outside the body and the eggs will open. If the house is flea free just vac and clean well. Wash your hand after handling the cat. Well, you should do that anyway :) a dewormer from the vet act quickly so keep her litter clean and after a day or so, clean the whole thing, change to completely clean litter. All will be fine :)..no need to panic

If it is ring worms then definitely yes, you also have to disinfect your whole house as it is very contagious...wish you best of luck..
