Hello Everyone :)
One week to go and I am very excited. HOWEVER....My lovely father in law has sent me into a panic about what vaccinations I need or have to have done.
Please help me...what do I need. My new husband (since Tuesday!) has had his medical done over in Dubai and has his residency visa sorted. I have a part time job but they have only told me to get my documents attested and get lots of passport photos done.
I have an appointment tomorrow, but I literally am in a panic.
Aimee

Agree with previous posters but would recommend HepA/HepB ten year vaccination. It will cover all you and yours wherever you decide to travel which you may do while you are in Dubai. For example, first jab 1 Jan, second jab 1 Feb and then third jab 1 June. This would cover you and yours for ten years.

Had a look - it says take the advice of your GP and make sure your immunisations are up to date "as recommended for life in Britain". Hepatitis B is just for those with occupational risk.

As I said Sue, none are essential, but some are recommended. See nhs direct link http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/middle-east/united-arab-emirates.aspx. It is up to the individual as to take precautions or not. The linK wouldn't open... Surely the ones you mention - diphtheria, polio etc we have all had as infants... Do they "run out" ?? Try google nhs fit for travel and then put in UAE. Yes they run out, general guidelines are they last 10 years.

Thank you Dally, I see the nurse tomorrow so I will talk about what you have said, with research to be safe it seems those are a good idea. Although I may be too late for the Hep ones with a week to go...never mind though. Thank you again ;)

We came from UK and didn't need any - nor did our GP recommend anything. We even rang the malaria hotline number off the poster in the waiting room one time LOL !!!

None are essential but some are recommended, we got Hep A, Tetanus, Polio and Diphtheria before coming here on holiday prior to moving here. But that's just me being ultra cautious, but they were recommended by our Gp and we didn't have to pay for them.

I am coming from the UK. My job will be in a school so just concerned I might need that, although I shall only be able to get the first set. Do they do hep b over there? Also thank you, both of you made me breath huge sigh of relief :) xx

I doubt you will need any jabs, no matter where you come from! Your medical will happen once you get here, and that consists of a blood test, xray it checks for HIV/Aids & TB. Don't panic! Welcome
