Hi ladies

I'd like to register my son into 3 schools for FS1 academic yr 2014-2015. I'm not fussed about location, but rather the quality of the school and teachers. There are so many schools to choose from! Please can you send me recommendations of schools with an excellent reputation and/or that your children are happy at. I cannot apply to schools like JESS though who require a debenture. Any advise would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance... :)

Sorry to revive this thread - can someone explain to me how these personal debentures work? If you're applying now for 2014/2015, when is the debenture due? When/if the child is offered a place? Now, at application? Any other restrictions about how to get this money back etc if the child chooses not to attend... TIA

Good to know... think i can live with that too if the quality of the teaching is excellent! Thanks again.

You're welcome! My only criticism of JPS, and I think the same can be said for many other parents, is the class sizes. However, the quality of teaching is excellent all over the school, and at the end of they day I can live with the class sizes given all the other wonderful benefits of the school.

Super advice Scribs! JPS is one of my first choices and i've set up an appointment with them for September, so you've made me feel confident about this choice. Thanks! One down, two to go...

The best thing you can do is put together a list of potential schools you are interested in and a list of questions, wait until September and take a tour of each one. You will get so much different feedback from everyone which is certainly useful, but this is the only way you will be able to assess what is right for your child. My DS is at JPS and he absolutely loves it, it is a large school with a great reputation, very inclusive with an abundance of extra curricula activities. However, others on here slate the school because it is GEMS and for other reasons.

ahhh sorry... that's what u meant by debenture... i thought it was more like a one-off payment thing that some of the GEMS schools have asked me for when i applied (unfortunately those are not refundable)... anyway, most schools have this kind of deposit system... my DD has just been offered a place at Horizon and their deposit is 6000... and again this amount will be released back to us when she leaves school.

You would have to pay a personal debenture to JESS if you were to take a place. Everyone has to unless you have a Company Debentures available through your/your husband's company. JESS Jumeirah Debentures are currently 10000 per child, and you get this back once your child leaves the school.
