I assumed you could pool two people's accounts the way you can with BA, or at least use the higher tier person (I'm gold)'s tier points but it looks like you just get 20% of family members' points if you do it this way? Anyone done it; is it worth it or should you just keep separate accounts, even if that means you and your spouse are at different statuses?

You can share points if you upgrade at the airport and both people are on same flight. Points are accrued by the flyer not the buyer!

Yes I think I did it wrong - I should have nominated him for his own account instead! Next question - if I buy his ticket on my gold status, do I accrue points at gold level or it's purely based on the tier status of the person flying?!

Personally I don't think it's worth it. We all have our own accounts to collect miles (DH, me and 2 kids) We just let the miles accumulate over time then redeem a flight, but we only usually fly Emirates. If you hardly fly them it may be worth taking the 20%. DH is gold and we are silver, doesn't matter you are different tiers.
