We had an ethiopian babysitter for around half a year, individuals differ in all nations, there were no worries with ours but deffinately no wow-factor either... She was qualified in childcare, but to be honest ive heard its quite hard to find somebody with good english as these ethiopian ladies who have good level they work often not as maids and may have more ambition. We found quite a lot of applicants with good English from Philippines.
ETA: the philippino babysitter we got now has a strong wow factor, at least for the start! ;)

To answer your question - I would have replied NO as the only Ethiopian maids I've ever known (not with me but with a colleague and a friend) have caused no-end of problems. But your circumstances and needs are obviously different from the average expat......so good luck with your search. :)
Hello EW friends. After no housemaid for a few months, we are finally looking for ourselves and friends that are moving here in September. I must admit it has been nice without a maid for a while but since offering to help a friend, I may as well look for ourselves. Ethiopian housemaids are ech of our preference but Phillipino is okay. If anyone has a housemaid that is from Ethiopia that knows someone already here, that is our preference. Bringing someone over is not an option as we need to meet them first. We travel to Ethiopia quite a bit and have a genuine love for the food and culture. Our friends have an adopted child from Ethiopa so have a strong preference for Ethiopian help. Please, please call or text with any references from your housemaids. Only requirement is to have good English. :-) We live in Jumeirah. 0558814207. Please no calls for friends or family in Ethiopia as we will NOT bring anyone here.. Our friends will be living in Meadows.
