Extension to my mums visit visa - how to do it?

My mum is visiting us for 6 weeks and as a British passport holder she automatically got a 30 day visa in her passport. Before when she stayed for a long time the 30 day visa meant that she could stay 60 days but I know that this has now changed.

I've phoned the DNRD for advice but it was quite vague each time. One guy told me that I would need to go to the immigration department, fill in a form and pay dhs620 for an extra 30 day extension. Another guy advised that she should leave the country and come back in with a new 30 day visa.

Has anyone been through this recently and can advise? Thanks

Unfortunately not. I managed to keep my cool even when I was barked at to 'sit back down and wait until I am called' after being told by someone else to go through to a little room!

no ladies section at festival city? From experience these processes can be such different experiences depending on the day/staff/luck/fate/position of the planets. Main thing is not to get worked up or loose the will to live! :-) Good luck with it in any case.

So ive just extended my visa....It started off pretty well I was seen straight away and my letter was typed however, 90minutes later i was still sitting there waiting for the print out of a document. I have been asked to return in a few hours as they have someone coming out to update the system. It cost dhs675. I would advise to go when they first open....a gentleman came in with a handful of passports which i imgine would take a great deal of time. To Lulla- i think you are correct in saying that extensions done via imm.dpts are one offs and next time i would have to leave Dubai.

Been in the same position with my mum. Italian passport but same conditions apply. What I now understand is that the one month extension at immigration can only be done once, I think, after a border immigration expires. So basically, after entering the country via an airport or Hatta, you can extend the visa for 30 days (and they always seem to give a few extra days). But you cannot re-extend it a second time without leaving the country, so Hatta run would be the next option. If you want to stay longer still you can then do another immigration dept visa extension, and so on. The renewal process at the immigration department near Zabeel park is actually quite painless because they have a very pleasant and relaxed Ladies only section (just to your left as you go in the door). The only thing you have to do is to go to typing across the yard and that's a bit more hectic (make sure they type the details correctly otherwise you have to go back) The price is now around 700 dhs. What I also discovered is that for the 700 dhs you get 30 days of medical cover including repatriation costs. I found this out the second time I used this service when the lady asked me if I wanted a copy of the insurance form. I thought that was great, as my mum travels without insurance (grrr) That would be worth 3 times the cost of the visa itself. The ladies in the ladies section are very nice and they were lovely to my mum. edited by Lulla on 20/07/2011 edited by Lulla on 20/07/2011

Hatta is the easiest option. Did this three weeks' ago. You'll pass through UAE checkpoints at Al Rowhdah and Ajman border points where you may or may not have to show your passport. Exit stamp at Dubai/Hatta border post. Drive through to Oman Customs post and get vehicle paper and - KEEP THIS WITH YOU. At Al Wajaja (Oman) border post fill in visa application and take this with your passport, vehicle paper and either 200dhs or RO20 to the desks on the right in the office. Tell the officer that you're returning to Dubai and they'll put both entry and exit stamps in your passport. Turn back towards Dubai and at the Oman Customs point hand in the above-mentioned vehicle paper which will have been stamped/signed. Then drive back to Dubai and park on the right hand side and get a new visa for tourist entry to Dubai. I believe that if extensions are done through official channels they are 'one off' extensions only whereas it would appear that visas which are renewed via Hatta/Wajaja can be done several times. Shoot me down if I'm wrong ...

Hi, I'm in the same position, mine runs out on saturday but I have enquired and I can do it at the immigration office at Festival City. It can take some time as you need to see several people who have various roles so i am going first thing tomorrow morning. I believe it costs around 700dhs.

Hi there, You used to be able to do either - do the Oman run as below (you could always pop into Hatta Fort for lunch etc!) or I think you can go to Immigration and it used to be 500 so it prob has gone up a bit, to pay for an extension - should be quite simple, try going to Bin Sougat immigration and asking them, maybe take everyhing with you incase they can do it there and then .... good luck !

Before we got our reisdency visa's, every 30 days we would have to do a boarder run. Drive to Oman/Hatta boarder cross over and then turn around and come back. Round trip about 6 hours. Maybe like 100aed at the check points. There are about 3 you will have to go through. But people do it all the time so its not a big deal.
