Feeling a bit ripped off by Reel Cinemas - is it me?

Took my youngest to Reel Cinemas at Dubai Marina Mall today. She is 8 years old (9 next month). They made me pay the adult price for her ticket!! Why - because once children are 120cm (approx 47 inches) - they must buy an adult ticket!! Even though my DD is very average for her height - even though she is one of the oldest in her class at school - probably more than half the girls in her class are taller than her, and they are younger - for some reason Reel Cinemas (at least at Dubai Marina, have no idea about the other locations) thinks that I should pay the adult price for her. I am really irritated. It's not the extra 15dhs really, it's just that why bother calling it a 'childrens' ticket - if an 8 year old can't even get in! She certainly isn't an adult! Is this rip off something common among all of the cinemas here - or just at this particular cinema?

Do you know what, thats news to me that there is a childs ticket!!! I've been paying full price every time I go, even for 2 and a half year old grrrrrrrr Second this, have never paid a child's rate here over our 31/2 years. I was going to say the same thing. I had no idea that there even was a child's rate. Me neither I had no idea ! I've been paying full price for my two kids for years and none of the the sales person told me anything when they can see I had kids with me! O_o Same here! I actually say at the counter 1 adult two children and they still charge me full price, so I just assumed there was no childs ticket, now I'm feeling ripped off by Reel Cinemas too!!!

I never knew there was a different rate for kids and have been paying full price like AS. Could someone post the rates applicable for kids and from what age we should start taking tickets for kids.I have taken tickets for 1 year old as well. Just calculating the extra popcorns and drinks i could have had :(

Maybe the child's ticket is going in the pockets of the person behind the counter. Maybe they just void the ticket after you leave. People with low salaries are always looking for a way....Just saying.... :( Crazy to say an 8 year old is not a child due to their height. Shame on that person! No, not going into the employee's pocket, it is Reel Cinemas rule (at least at Dubai Marina Mall). I checked on their website, and even when you book the child's ticket online, the 120cm rule is written right there. It's crazy, as my daughter is just about average for her height, and shorter than a lot of her female classmates - so it's not that she's adult size - she's a very normal sized 8 year old. And I did complain to the manager, but he just said it was the company rule. It seems to me it's just a case of Reel Cinemas trying to make more money than they already do at the expense of children! edited by emmess on 16/10/2011

They do that at Atlantis and Wild Wadi too so annoying.

Did you complain to the management? Or the customer protection guys.... pretty sure that this can't be right.

What a stupid rule! What if a vertically challenged adult went to the cinema who was less than 120cm? I bet they wouldn't get in for a child's price! That would certainly be a case worth testing!

The cinemas seem to be pretty inconsistent here. Many a time I have been to the movies with my 2 year-old and they insisted that she had to pay. Well, yesterday, we were told that we did not have to pay for her because she is only 2. I suppose it depends who is behind the counter.
