So i just saw that I have a 200AED fine for using a handheld mobile while driving at 11pm last tuesday.
1 - I have a 19month old who sleeps by 9:00 so there is no way i was on the road at 11pm
2 - They have given me 6 points
3 - I have proof on my phone that I havent used it that late.. altho they prolly wont believe it.

Is there anyway I can sort this out?

Shaf, Ask your telephone company to give you a complete print out of your calls. On your phone won't count as you may have either deleted incoming or received calls. ( not saying your have ) This will be easier for you then with proof , you take it up with the Police/ RTA. It depends how strongly you feel but if you have the proof maybe you should follow up and more good will come from it and also let the police know you are not a walk over or made of money. Good luck edited by jewelsmiddle on 14/01/2011 ha! does etisalat print phone calls??? Anyways, i have to pay my bills tomm, i think I will give that a shot! Thank you soo much for the idea! :)

But I can tell you the poster who photographs car numberplates who supposedly park too close to her is still active - have seen her twice at MoE but when I'm in exit cue so couldn't stop, just told security on my way out so hope they tell her of. No idea why she is still doing this after getting so told of by other posters, just beware if you get a fine for something strange at MoE. Big blue ford (explorer?escape?) late thirties, short blondish/medium hair, bit plump. Young kids with her first time I saw her in the holidays, none second time so must be at schoolaged. Do the police here take civilian photos as evidence of anyhthing and just fine you? Unbelievable. Well spotted! :D

I swear I get tickets random!!! I had absolutely no tickets for like 10 months and now in December and January I got 8!!! Sometimes twice a day. All says Speeding on Sheik Zayed Road. Well, I drive it every day, but how come suddenly I would speed every day??? 600 each, what a joy. They need my money it seems!!

I can be "C" - twice been fined for speeding when I was at work, sitting still, but paid up as I knew it wasn't worth arguing. One can actually contest the fine officially, in which case the photograph has to be presented by the police as proof. If they are right, you pay the fine + "court fees", but if you know you can't be the "sinner" you also have a good chance. Takes time, effort and lots of nerve...

I can be *E*... Fined 800dhs for driving too fast in Sharjah at 2am on a Wednesday morning...! Never even been to anywhere in Sharjah except Bypass and Emirates Road! When I called to enquire, they confirmed it was my car, then asked what kind of car it was and what my plate number was! They said they would investigate, then called me back later and told me that yes, it was my car, but they would give me a discount of 200dhs, so "its not so bad - only 600dhs"!!!!! Ended up paying as the only other option was to go there and dispute it...

Mystery fines are a really hot topic here. Some examples from colleagues over the past 12 months are: *A* was fined for doing an illegal turn in Sharjah at midnight on a Saturday night. She was at home in bed at the time. Went to RTA, was told ‘too bad, pay up’. *B* was fined for speeding on SZR at a time when she was at work. Was shown the photo which wasn’t from a speed camera but from a regular domestic digital camera. *C* was fined for speeding on Beach Road at 11am on a working day, works in a secure situation where all activity is logged so he could show that he was at work at the time. Told ‘too bad, pay up’. *D* was fined for speeding so fast that there was a 5 figure fine plus double figure black points. Took passport to RTA to show that she was overseas on that entire week, told, ‘too bad pay up’. Created fuss as RTA person would not show her a copy of the photo, a police officer who happened to be in the RTA intervened and demanded to see the photo. The car in the photo was obviously not hers and the fine was removed from system.

Haha, yeah, its not all roses! I guess we should be grateful we only have to budget for vet bills and groomers, not school fees!

Hope you have a nicer company than DH's then (from a few years ago, that is), who didnt ever even contest anything, just deducted it off his salary...! We forked out nearly 3K for an accident which we got the green slip because HR lost the slip! Tried arguing with to co, but, ***headshake***, "What to do"?.... Yes, husbad's co has a policy to automatically deduct anything they don't like on the co cc and then repay it a few months later after much argument. We're still waiting for something from our first month here (Sept/Oct) that they queried but which was completely legit and it's left us out of pocket by rather a lot. This business of school fees a semester in advance isn't half beggaring us up at the mo, so much for us saving taxes when the salary's not even been paid yet.. Note to self: get husbad to discuss this with HR next time he goes to Switzerland..

Betz, if you haven't got an actual physical ticket, you go to the RTA website and log in and look for your car number plate on it. ETA: Even if you have got an actual physical ticket, you need to log in to find out what for and how much! <em>edited by simpleasabc on 13/01/2011</em>

We were down at the Marina Walk a few weeks ago and parked in what looked like a parking lot to us, near the Nosenpick Hotel, taking the place of someone who'd just left. We returned a couple of hours later to find we'd got a fine; nobody else around us had one. We asked someone to translate it for us, and it was for "blocking traffic", which we couldn't quite figure out. As it was a hire car, we've left it for them to argue.. I hate to tell you, the car hire people wont argue it, they'll just deduct it from your CC that you used for booking the vehicle... No probs, it's a "company" car and we gather that there is no arguing with a hand-written fine, which is what it was, clearly done to gain money.

As hooters said, they may have entered the wrong time. I remember in one incident where I was blocking an intersection (well, half of my car behind was on the yellow box, my bad!) and I saw the police officer standing off to the side writing furiously. I checked on the website few days later and there it was, except that it was am and not pm and wrong date! I paid it anyways knowing I did it. So if you are one of those people who never hold a phone to your ear while driving, then you should contest it for sure. Let's hope that it's one of those incidents where they captured you on their camera and can show that it was you or not you rather. Otherwise, it's your words against theirs. Good luck!

There is a call made at 11:12am, but I remember clearly that was inside the compound of my house as I was telling a friend where she should park her car to access my house! And before that I was at the beach with her, so the last call was made to the same person 9:58 at the beach! Both times I was standing and not in the car.

You can go down to the police station and contest a fine. Not worth it in my experience.
