be careful the guarantor requirements are different living abroad then when we were in Canada. I didn't put down relatives for the in lieu when we were getting my son's passport. They never called the people though.
Dear both,
I again looked up on the instructions and in the guarantor section it doesn't say anything about the guarantor not being a relative. It clearly mentions it in the reference section, but not in guarantor section.
Thoughts?
To avoid confusion and rejection from Ms Happy at the consulate (grrrrr), probably best not to have a relative as a guarantor. But in the past I've had a relative sign for me, before they got snarky about the list of professions allowable (in the good ol' days, pharmacists and engineers could sign). Maybe look at the online faq or google it? God knows phoning the consulate will be a waste of time.
Dear Both,
Thanks for your input. This is really appreciated. One more question since I couldn't find it any where in the instructions. Can the guarantor be a relative? The form specifies that the 2 references not guarantor cannot be relatives but doesn't specify that for guarantor. So I am assuming that the guarantor can be relative?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
No need for a stamp, except that the photo place that takes your picture needs to stamp the back of it. Your guarantor needs to sign the stamped passport picture. It's in the rules, which you can download with the passport application at the government of Canada site.
You can also complete a "Declaration in Lieu of a Guarantor" if you haven't known someone here in one of those professions long enough to serve as a guarantor. From experience today (note to self: Do NOT attempt passport renewal when pre-menstrual), they will not let you know that you need to obtain this form at the passport office (consulate) and fill it out until you're standing in front of them with every other completed application page. They also don't take kindly when you ask them when you needed to develop psychic powers in order to not waste your time and theirs. Grrr.
They'll need to complete the guarantor section of the application with their contact information. They will also need to sign the pictures. There's no need for a stamp.
I need to get my Canadian passport renewed for which the pics have to be attested by a guarantor who can be a Doctor, Banker, Dentist etc. Can anyone let me know if the guarantor needs to put a stamp or just a sign is enough. Since some Bankers are saying that the bank doesn't allow them the stamp usage.
Any help will be great.
