Good lord the UK has plenty of trash on tv. And nothing is more trashy that that UK show my big fat gypsy wedding. I was at friends a few years back and they were watching a show called [i'>Celebrity Mingers! [/i'>[b'>[/b'> which was British. Totally trashy but very enjoyable. I would watch Big Fat Gypsy wedding if I had access to it as I would be fascinated by the gypsy lifestyle... but I have no time for most trashy TV, American or British as I feel they are all just playing up and exaggerating for the cameras - particularly the American shows - if I am allowed to say that!

We have a show on one of the Indian Channels where one of the infamous celebrities decide to get married with one of the lesser mortals. The show goes on for months, with the celebrity eliminating the contestants one by one until he/she decides on the final 3.. Goes on and gets engaged to the winner. And then takes part alongwith him/her in more reality shows and fill up pockets and then when they've had their fill, they decide to call it quits and have public showdown ending up in a breakup/divorce. The channel guys pay them for broadcasting their marriage and divorce.. Load of **** !!!!

So how come you all agree these programmes are trash yet you know all their names ?? Because it is like watching a train wreck. You know you should look away but you just can't..... You get sucked into the whole drama like on Jerseylicious and just HAVE to find out what Tracey & Olivia are gonna do next ;) Another good one that I used to have a laugh at was Dallas Divas & Daughters - too funny.

I'm American and I'm happy to admit many of the tv programs are trash. Sheer, outright garbage. I also have no problems using white trash, redneck or ghetto trash....or geeks or dweebs or dorks. Izzy....watch out. She seriously means it.......WHY CAN'T IT JUST BE CALLED TRASH TV? hehe because it's American....... edited by Tallybalt on 31/01/2011 You forgot TPT (trailer park trash ;) )

Not sure how long you have lived here in Dubai, but nationality is the biggest question asked here and EVERYBODY does it. And the "everybody does it" reasoning is a good reason to do it yourself. Riiiigggghhht. LOL - mark my words eventually you will do it to (you need a few years here and more experience). I'm not saying it's a derogatory thing, it's just a natural question to ask, I meet someone and they ask me where I'm from, it's not such a big deal is it? Noooooo, riiiiiigghhht. Plastic surgery is not US only based, however making a show based on a competition for better looks or whatever it was about, is a trademark to a certain country (hello, the Bachelor, Bacheloretter series - good God, give me a break)

The show can't just be "trashy TV" -- what about plastic surgery is relevant only to American culture? Don't people all over the world get plastic surgery done? Do you really think that only Americans get plastic surgery before their wedding? Please...it is useless in THIS context. GET A GRIP. THE SHOW IS AMERICAN AND IT'S TRASH WHAT ON EARTH IS WRONG WITH THAT STATEMENT. SERIOUSLY WOMAN !!!! edited by Izzy99 on 31/01/2011

As for calling this American trash TV - the US has put out some pretty crappy stuff - The Jerry Springer Show, Jerseyshore, TeenMom, Chelsea Handler, Dr. 90210 (who apparently are making a Middle East version of the show - lovely!!!!) and anything else that E network shows - need I go on with trashy American TV examples? If it was a trashy French show, it would be called that, but in reality America puts out the largest number of TV shows and movies and alot of them are trash. Hey, the Brits do trash really well too...Big Brother, X-Factor, Britain/America's got Talent.....but Strictly Come Dancing/Dancing with the Stars...that's class...

I don't need to chill, it's an observation of my own. Race and nationality are constantly made a part of issues on this board: - An Emirati was driving w/ 5 kids in the car bouncing around w/ no seatbelt - An American doctor couldn't care less that her dog bit a child - A Filipina maid was having *** with my son Does it not get the same point across to say the same thing w/out the nationality involved: - A stupid driver was driving w/ 5 kids in the car bouncing around w/ no seatbelt - This woman couldn't care less that her dog bit a child - A live-in maid was having *** with my son I think using nationality in these impertinent statements is inflammatory and further increases stereotypes and prejudices. Seriously get a grip - using nationality gives a clear picture of the cultural background and gives people a reference point to the situation which when living in a very multicultural society is important... Now if i were saying everything American was trashy, you would have a point. But saying specifically that this programme is American trash is a specific statement about a specific topic.

Of all the stereotype issues to get caught up about I wouldn't think this would top the list. American trash, in relation to tv is more like a genre isn't it? Like Bollywood movies, or BBC drama. I for one love trashy tv - such great escapism!!

Chocs01, really, does it have to be "American trash" -- I don't know why nationality always has to be discussed negatively. it's American and it's trash? what else should it be called? It's an honest statement edited by Izzy99 on 31/01/2011

What's the difference in getting bridalplasty as cosmetic surgery at any other point in your life? It is what it is...if you are into it, you would probably have it done at some point in your life anyways. Chocs01, really, does it have to be "American trash" -- I don't know why nationality always has to be discussed negatively. Plastic surgery is done all over the world, not just in the US. But they don't make cr@p TV out of it....... and i can't believe they even have a name for it ffs - "bridalplasty" ????.... :\:
