I would agree with McB but both of you in the car. Perhaps your husband drives and you sit in the back with her to keep her calm and talk about nonsense issues to keep her ok-ish. Try not to give her too much warning (minutes as opposed to hours) as I do feel that she still might run.

Logistics- take her to the airport yourself or your husband. Suggest to give her sufficient hard currency( - US Dollars or Euro t)o exchange when she gets to Manila to pay her way home to her Island and food. If you over pay don't stress, just be glad when you have done the right thing and given her sufficient money to get to her family and you will be able to relax. Good luck today and hope all works out for you. Agree blue, it has become tedious. We have booked her a plane ticket for tomorrow. Now just have to work out the logistics so that it goes as smoothly as can be expected. Not looking forward to tomorrow and will be mighty relieved when all over.

Honestly, not sure if anyone else is, but this thread is becoming a little tedious now.. Victoria, you have been given the best advice from all ladies here and one minute you are determined to send this maid back, the next, you feel awful and will keep her on until she finds another job (goodness help the new employers and do so hope you will be honest in the reference as this poor family possibly stand to lose thousands on visa fees - however. It will be on your conscience). As DR quote rightly said, only you will make the decision and all have given options to you, over and over again. Good luck.

Are domestic flights in the PHilipines cheap, frequent and no need tO book? If so she can sort it out herself when she gets there. Don't know if we'd need to give her the money thor that flight. No you do not need to fly her to her province. Just Manila. If you want to give her extra it is about Dh200-400 for domestic flights, max and they have boats and buses too.

Sugarbeach, no its not the red tape that bothers me about sending our maid home, its the doing something against her will that she is likely to react badly to. It's just all a bit unpleasant. Quick question for anyone still up: Getting a ticket to Manila is no problem, but our maid comes from another island. What do we do about that? Do we have to get her a domestic ticket too? If so that's more complicated as I dont know where her family lives now, nor who flies there. Are domestic flights in the PHilipines cheap, frequent and no need tO book? If so she can sort it out herself when she gets there. Don't know if we'd need to give her the money thor that flight.

Not everyone has the time to read all yet useful to have different peoples input for those trying to figure out what is the best of a difficult situation. Certainly the aggressiveness of many does not always warrant reading everything on threads. quote=AnneCoulter'>Why are people responding but saying they have not read all the thread? Like, would that not be the prudent thing...instead of sending this around in circles. Same answers over and over. eeeeesh

This is a weird question, but can you ban someone after you cancel their visa? Or do you have to do it when you cancel the visa? Also what would be wrong with just sending her home without the ban, just send her to Manila, and if she wants to come back to Dubai she can go through an agency or some other way? That way your not at all responsible for her and she can come back. I just feel a ban is pretty harsh.

Victoria, I have been there and perhaps I'm just harsher than you in making a decision and following it through. I can't make out whether you cannot bear the thought of physically sending her on the plane or just cannot get your head around the red tape. It shouldn't be difficult, I managed to do this when my maid's visa was from Sharjah, which added redtape complexity, and I sent her back via Dubai airport. I've not read all the thread(s) but assuming you want rid of your maid. You can either A) find her a new employer or B) you can send her back home. In anycase, either way, you have to get hold of her passport (and keep it) and cancel her visa as the first step. Then you have 30 days grace to do either A or B. After the 30 days you will be liable for over stay fines per day. If you find it hard to send her back, I would think you would find it harder to lie to a new employer in order to get her off you hands. So you are back to A). The logical conclusion is to cancel visa first and then do what you have to do, whatever you do, you have 30 days to do it before being fined. And remember even after you cancel her visa, you are still responsible for her until she has transferred her visa (i.e. sponsorship by new employer) or flown out of the Dubai (i.e. gone past passport control with her cancellation papers, and pp control stamps exit, and you collect the exit stamped papers from Dubai airport immigration). edited by Sugarbeach on 23/05/2013

I have not read every response and you sound very reasonable. Maybe cancel her visa and give her 30 days to find a job, Not sure , but can she stay with her sister for that 30 days ? or other friends so she is not in your home ? You see the risk as greater as you and not familiar with the set up and people can generate panic in others very easily. Sounds like she would be better off with a different employer who can meet her needs and you would be much better off with someone else who meets your family needs and less stress for you. Strong maids can become an issue depending on the dynamics in a household. If you live in A R. There is a maid coming end of May who will be looking for work in A R I have been told and she lived in Dubai for a number of years.I know her relative who lives and works in Dubai. Good luck with your difficult situation. Interesting that you say immigration would also advise sending her home. DHs work (HR and PRO) has now advised him not to fly her home but to cancel her visa and then let her have the 30 days to find something new. Funny how they don't seem concerned about the risk, but they have never had a problem with this approach so far. What I really don't get is how on earth you are meant to make sure they leave the country after the 30 days if they are no longer living with you. Of course DH now wants to do as his work suggests as he is that sort of guy, and also very trusting. I think he's also very uncomfortable with the idea of wrestling maid into car, into airport etc. He's a real softie and usually leaves the hard stuff to me (he has not got involved with talking to the maid at all about all this yet). Can anyone give me a number or website for immigration so I can see what they say. And yes its definitely suspicious that she's come back from sisters all smoochy, but only to the extent that she now wants something from us ie to stay in Dubai. She knows she has got to butter us up.

DR you are right on all counts. You have given me the advice I need but I have been unable to act on it yet. We need to get our heads around the idea of sending her home. It's a tough thing to do when you're not used to situations like this. And it just feels so brutal. Despite what POwerpuff says, we keep envisaging a repeat of the sort of tears and tantrums we have already seen. Fortunately she is a very small lady! Eli, very sobering story. I could envisage us in a similar situation with our maid struggling to find a job. And we are going to have problems if asked for written or verbal references as the truth is not going to get her a job. Sending her home would avoid us getting into that position and a ban would speak for itself. Agree with DR. There is nothing more that can be said, so let's just leave things now and we will try and get our heads around what we need to do. Could I just thank everyone for taking the time to try and help. I will update once whatever deed is done. And sorry to spoil your Thursday night by removing the source of entertainment! Hope there's something good on the tv!

Victoria I hope you know that we are all on your side, however else it is made out to be - we only want what is best and hope it all works out for you! The ladies with maid experience on here are usually spot on with their advice, so I hope you have managed to take some of it on board. DesertRose, wise words - as always :)

This has been going on for days and is set to run for a while yet. Victoria has been given the advice she needs but isn't quite ready yet to do what she needs to be doing. I think perhaps letting it go now and leaving her to process her thoughts is what's needed right now more than anything else. What will be will be. Did everyone hear DR, she has spoken and has a wealth of experience in dealing with domestic workers and and and.....

One of my pet hates is when people on here instruct others to "get a life"..... however...seeing how gleefully some posters are participating in this REAL LIFE issue i'm beginning to understand the sentiment....
