Having had a huge DEWA water bill, my gardener has recommended a company that can bore a hole/rig/well? He says it costs AED4000 and then no monthly charge. I have never heard of this before and have a theory about things that seem too good to be true. Has anyone done this?, does it work? Tell me more please.

Fay - I don't think that the ground water in the ranches is suitable for watering the garden because it is too saline. Same for all Dubailand area.

I saw them in my friends place who lives in green community west, another friend tried to get one installed in the ranches, it was refused by emaar, yes true they can fine you for installing one. You pay 4000 dirhams to install, and only 300 dirhams flat charge a months regardless of units used, which is fantastic if other developers allowed you to have them in your garden.

No I no longer have their details, we did that 3 years ago and now we moved to Mirdiff. Only last week someone placed an add for boring wells on our gate... so business carries on...

Yip, it's not allowed in the Ranches. You and the company installing it can get a big fine! We had mixed responses from garderners though, so some do still promote it. We have actually been given a quote by a company that do it here, 3500 without the tank, obviously they don't want to supply the tank as it will draw attention to them at security? We decided it wasn't a risk worth taking. A friend is having it done in Umm Sequim and has had a few quotes through, not sure how much but nothing like what you paid Shaks, do you still have their details? Then again, they probably won't to the Unn Sequim area and if they do I'm sure their prices will be slightly higher. Still worth a shot I guess.

As far as I know you are not allowed to have one in the Ranches so says DEWA/Emaar, however I agree water bills are stupid so if you do it, let us know as I'm sure many would be interested ...
