DD is in her second and final year of GCSE's but was just wandering if we needed to move would it be very difficult for her to do the final year back in England... I know this is going to sound awful, but we are moving to Dubai in the fall and I desperately need a seat for Year 13 for my son - it is his final year as well. I was wondering if you decided to leave and if so, what school was your daughter attending?

Hi, we moved our daughter in the summer mid way through her GCSE's. The tricky part was getting a school that used the same examing boards - she had to do her English Lit course in one year as she had to change examining boards so the books were different. Also, the history curriculum had been covered in a different order, so she was studyiing at the new school what she had studied the year before at her old school, so had to have extra lessons to catch up on that. But she got excellent results so we are happy. But it could have been a disaster. I think the thing that really helped is that she was sooo happy at her new school and the shcool were incredibly welcoming and accepting of her. Some schools won't accept students part way through as it can be a disaster and thus affects their overall results, so they want the students to redo the initial year.

Very difficult. I had a client who was on a look see trip/interview, the company here really really wanted him, the package was fab, BUT and there is always a but not a single school in Dubai could match the exact exam syllabus she had been studying to date. Schools offer exams from a variety of boards and finding another school to offer the same and to have compelted the syllabus in the same order is nearly impossible. All the schools her could suggest was that she would be held back a year and start GCSE's again. She was an older student, with an excellent academic record, school council etc, she would have been an asset but it wasnt too be.
