we always fly Emirates - and yes, in the grand scheme of things, an extra £200 is worth every penny... but unless you've sat next to a bored toddler for 7h30, you wouldn't necessarily appreciate its value! Their ICE system is great and often has some Cbeebies stuff on it, as well as a good selection of children's films. The added bonus is that you can start and stop the programmes at any time. They also provide a colouring book and pencils, a glove puppet toy, and sometimes a back-pack full of goodies. Their child's meals are pretty good and come with a snack pack that you can save for later. Staff are very nice and will only say something when your child rampages through first class... not that mine ever did, especially not last Monday.

Virgin Atlantic are the best airline in my opinion. Have just flown with emirates (not out of choice) and i didnt think they were that great- we were delayed at every part of our flight, they werent very forthcoming with drinks, even water etc and gernerally it was a horrible flight... have flown woth virgin for 4 years and np problems at all...

Just wanted to add that with most Emirates flights from London they have this inflight entertainment system called ICE. My 2 year old DD played with it non stop for about 4 hours - its touch screen and she loved it. ps., Don't work for Emirates or anything.

My brother and his family flew here with Gulf Air a few months ago and could not praise them enough! They have a 20 month old and the staff were amazing with him. They said they would definitely use them again.

Qatar go via doha so wouldnt recommend them. I would highly recommend Etihad airways. We have been using them since we arrived here 4 years ago. They do direct flights from london to abu dhabi then a courtesy coach up from abu dhabi. You will find that they are reasonably priced too. Wouldnt go with BA - they have the tendency to pull striking action during busy periods esp around Easter time. Emirates is good too but Etihad get the thumbs up from me.

thanks for your recommendations, however they are quite expensive at the moment and the extra 200GBP required im sure could be better spent once they get here... Has anyone tried Royal Brunei or Qatar Airways/ gulf Air, granted it means an extra stop but....price wise its a big difference I use all 3, if you want direct go RB, if you don't mind a stop go Qatar. Good luck

At the risk of sounding like an ad for Emirates, it is WELL WORTH taking them. 1. they are very very child friendly and willing to offer an extra pair of hands if you are alone with a little one. 2. direct flights, no stopovers, no change of planes (to me this is worth millions when traveling with little ones) 3. the arrival terminal for Emirates is immaculate, incredibly well staffed, and with the Marhaba, you get whisked through customs. These are not small advantages after a long flight with a little one. 4. all the other little courtesies they offer, strollers, extra nappies (just in case!), baby food etc. to me were always worth the extra $$ esp. when the kids were very little. Good luck.

Yip I think its worth the extra money too. When you have changes/stopovers you always run the risk of missing connecting flights which can be a headache when you are travelling alone let alone with a toddler!

Just to echo, make sure they get a direct flight, for a two-year-old, the extra money is worth it.

I would pay any money not to do an extra stop with a 2 year old! I usually fly BA with kids and they have been really helpful. Also I booked the Marhaba family help at the airport for arrival here and they got me a buggy and whisked me through immigration/baggage. So worth it!

If they are travelling with a 2 year old I would go for a direct flight - not one with a stop. Virgin are also really good with kids.

Royal Brunei are alright, Ive flown them a couple of times from Dubai to New Zealand. Not sure what they are like with children though. Thinking back at my Lufthansa flight to USA now I would have happily spend the extra 2000dhs to go Emirates!!

please can anyone recommend which airline to fly with, with a 2 yr old. My sister is coming over with her husband and my neice, my requirements from an airline are very different from theirs, so not sure who to book them with. They are coming in April...do you think its better to book now or wait a while?
