Not sure what to do about this - recently met a lady from the Philippines at a summer camp whilst in the bathroom - she was covered in bruises.

After a brief conversation - she is being beaten, not being paid, has no phone and is scared to death.

The conversation ended there for fear of her "Madam" coming.

I hope to see her again and would like to try and get her some help.

Has anyone been in a similar situation.

It is so bad how people can treat others like this - she was so scared, crying and I felt helpless.

I know at this point with out even her name, it is pretty pointless to be able to do something - I am hoping to see her again and get a number for a relative, who can make the calls and complaints on her behalf?

Thanks

I once helped a maid who was in trouble and called the Philippines Consulate. I did need to call and email several times before I got a response, but once they responded they were very thorough and very good. However if you don't know her name or where she lives there is little you can do. My only suggestion would be to arrange a time to meet her and take her to the embassy directly, so she can safely escape the situation. These stories sicken me and there really doesn't seem to be anyone maids in the situation can turn to.

Philippine consulate helps abuse maids. I have read similar incident in newspaper some time back where embassy helped the maid and sent her back.

I don't know what they can do but I would call the Philippine Consulate for advice.
