From November 19th UAE banks will adopt the international account numbering system, as the UAE does not currently use it this will entail issuing all existing customers in the UAE with new account numbers for all domestic and international transactions and remittances. After November 19th the Central Bank will reject transactions not bearing the new international code after a grace period of 3 months in which extra charges and delays will effect transactions without the new code.

I am seriously wondering how all the banks will manage to provide all customers with new account numbers in time for this deadline and for customers to have theri employers adjust salery payrolls in time too.

My bank has not even advised of this new proceedure yet let alone provided any information on my new account number. This seems to be way too short of a deadline to avoid chaos and disruption.

Good that Citibank have got their customer service announcements up ahead of time, lets hope the other banks have got their act together, there's not a word about this on the well known four letter bank website although they must have known the same time as Citi bank.

Here's an explanation fromCitibank about UAE accounts - http://www.citigroup.com/uae/gcb/paccounts/docs/iban_faq.pdf your personal account number doesn't change from what I understand - it is the country, bank, and branch identifiers that will be implemented/added.

No need to panic. its an IBAN number. from the article "IBAN implementation in the UAE could mean that all customers will have specific IBAN numbers [b'>in addition to their existing account numbers[/b'>" Its going to effect any existing arrangements we have for foreign transactions as the new number will have to be replaced on all standing orders. This means instructing our bank and corresponding banks for remittances in or out to be in the new number as opposed to what they have on file. Wherever there is a change there is real possibly of error in my experience. I will be amazed if this all goes without a hitch. <em>edited by Di@DXB on 07/10/2011</em>

We've only just had a new account number from Emirates NBD due to the merger, which I've just learnt. *sigh*

**hyperventilating** It takes forever for our clients to sort out bank transfers, this is going to be a HUGE mess.
