A few years ago I read a list of traffic offences and their associated fines/punishments. Jumping a red light was one of the most serious.

Somone I knew Jumped a red light and hit another car that was turning. He thought that he would get off with a fine and a few black points but was in prison for 1 month with a 5 k fine. the car that he hit was damaged and his car was very badly damaged. Noone was hurt though so everyone was surprised why he got a month in jail. start slowing down when you approach traffic lights you never know when they will change.. edited by mushypeas on 22/01/2012

yup, i got it as an sms in a week & it was up on the dubai police site as well & i paid off the 2300 dhs fine promptly . .. (a lesson to me, indeed !) Any other day, I would hv stopped -- but this case was different; i somehow felt that the change in colour was way too quick or that I was not too cautious .. . my bad ! & yes Monnie, it becomes difficult in sunny conditions, I agree ;P

I was driving down Umm Sequiem street from Ranches. Got to Al Khail interchange. Went through lights going straight on as if to go to MOE. Got onto roundabout then lights turned red. We all stopped except for a taxi which merrily carried on. At that particular junction the changeover is very quick and the taxi was almost wiped out by the traffic emeging from the Al Khail road coming from Dubai heading to Abu Dhabi. My kids travel in taxis and I was gob smacked and horrified. Never never jump a red light please.... edited by cushion on 21/01/2012 edited by cushion on 21/01/2012

sigh !! caught in crossroads, literally . .. Didn't know whether to cross over or screech to a halt . ..Blinked green, turned yellow & turned red, almost at the same time . .. took the left & got snapped from the back .. . 800 for the fine & 15 days of impounding (an alternative being 1500 dhs additional if u don't want to leave your car) . .. Bummer !! :( Serves you right. You were obviously approaching the lights too quickly. ditto - glad i wasn't coming the other way.....

Check out the police website here [url=http://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae/dp/english/e_services.jsp?Page=A344&dPg=1&isEng=true'>link[/url'> I've just looked on the police website and the person who bought DH's last car off him has clocked up nearly 7k in fines! edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 21/01/2012

Oh no!!! How do you know you were caught? Not sure if I jumped a red light or not a couple of weeks ago (it was sunny and after I went through I wasn't sure whether it had been red or green) and haven't received anything about a fine yet.
