Morning all, I am still here, still stressing:(

Leaving Dubai forever on Wednesday and thankfully finally passport is finally ready for collection after visa cancellation and EOS benefits have been transfered, so once this hit my account I will go to bank and close account tomorrow. No loans or CC, just a current account (which apparently I cant leave open if not employed or a resident anymore)

I have now heard that at the airport/immigraiton they may ask me for a copy of a letter from the bank proving account closure and no debt? Is this true or do you know of anyone who has left and had to show such a document? Hopefully I will get this letter but am guessing it might take the standard 2-3 days (aka 10) which I dont have. Grr I just want to go without trouble, I have done nothing wrong but I guess the horror stories are getting to me! help!

I am leaving in just under two weeks, it is a logistical nightmare! I just called the bank to ask what we needed to take in to close the account, timeframe etc - stupid useless tw4t just said 'go into the branch and they will tell you'. Er, hello, you are the customer service line, why can't you tell me?!!? I am completely over this place :(

Ok, I had a friend call the bank from another phone so I didnt have to alert them to my identity! they said if no loans or credit card liability they would not freeze the account when final EOS pay was deposited after employment ceased and visa cancelled. They said before I leave country to just go into the branch with photo id/surrender atm card/cheque books and account would be closed. They could issue a release letter however this would take 1-2 days. They said customs have all information on their system in relation to loans and credit cards so if you went to leavewith debt they would know, so if no liabilities then should be no problems encountered at the airport.OK! will add this to the ever growing checklist!

Deal. But I have no clue about the bank tho LOL sorry Personally I would go along with my passport as that always seems to be the main form of identification. They may also want to see if your visa is cancelled... who knows. I've not heard of the letter, but if the bank can do it whilst you close your accounts perhaps it is worth getting anyway for just in case.

Hi there, we are closing up and leaving as well... I would love to see your check list if possible. Thanks so much!! I'm not a new poster... I used to post under a different name, but changed it for more privacy :) edited by 2Soon on 22/08/2011

Will do, but might have to wait until I get home and settled in! Anyone out there have any idea re the bank letter? I know people have left with debt so surely I can leave without debt and get away with it?! Does anyone know if you need your passport to close your bank account or will any other ID do?

Thank you polly! yep, bound for Australia! I do hold a one way ticket so this might be the giveaway! Wish there was a clear 'leaving Dubai' checklist. In fact, I have made an awesome spreadsheet which has been really helpful, I should post it on here as plenty of people know what to do when they get here but not when they leave, and a lot of red tape and loose ends to tie up!! stressful stuff, but excited about the outcome!
