That's so great to hear. She will get there in the end I'm sure. Older cats take longer to get used to a new environment, especially if they've only ever known one family and a few places, they get a bit stuck in their ways. I'm sure she'll adapt. It's definitely and improvement if she's venturing out and about. She'll find little hiding places round the house. Good on you for taking her on, I know how hard it is :-)

Hey thanks for your suggestions SueB and Chocs01. She's doing a bit better now, she's ventured out of her room and is hiding in another room, and moved around to sniff upstairs, so I'd say thats an improvement!!! I'll keep working on it with her and if she comes right I'll be able to keep her, but if not I may still need a home for her, so far it looks promising, now if only I could get my missing kitten licorice back!

Hi Lora, oh it took Chloe weeks before she would venture out from her hiding places. As Sue suggests, put the other animals away and let her have a wander on her own to get used to the smells. I'm sure she'll get their in the end, it's probably the trauma of it all.

Lora, you could try carrying her out late in the evening and put the other animals in a room. Let her walk around one room at a time. You can also try putting her in her carrier and bringing her into a room with the other animals but keeping her beside you. Do this in short stints and she might become more relaxed and venture out the door of the laundry room. If you do this frequently during the day (her in the carrier) she will get used to the house noise..especially the kitchen noise :).....she is pretty afraid right now and her world has been turned upside down :(...awful to leave such an old cat :(...how could anyone do that :(

Lora, I have a rescued grandma cat as well - same story basically, owners did a disappearing act and left her behind. She too was afraid of my other cat and puppy at first and would hide and sleep in various corners and quiet places. But now she's absolutely fine and all the animals just tolerate one another and get along. If you can't find her a home, give her some time. It'll be the shock of everything, but I'm sure she'll come out of her shell in a time, once she gets used to things. bless her. Hi Chocs01, I've had her for 2 weeks now, and she just won't come out of the laundry room, she has a litter tray food and a bed in there and just won't move from it, do you think I should just force her into coming out of the room rather than leaving her in there? I try leaving the door open but she just stays hidden.... I go in the room and shut the door, and she is so affectionate, when the door is closed she comes running for hugs, I feel so sorry for her :(

bless her heart!!! I am not in dubai and I have 2 cats and a dog.....I would take her in a second!!! If she is still looking when I get back mid September I might be able to help temporarily. Did you talk to FF??? Hi SueB, Yes I really feel so sorry for her, she was with the same family for 17 years and in the same house and this must be a real shock for her :( I haven't contacted FF because I thought they must have their hands full with all the other cats dumped over the summer... Hopefully she's either integrated well with my animals or found another loving home by mid september but if not i'll definitely be up for some help :) and thanks so much for the offer.

Hi there ladies, Long story short a person we know pretty much abandoned their elder cat when they moved, and we ended up rescuing her. She's 17-18 years old, in perfect health ginger and white. I would keep her, at her ripe age she's not integrating well with my 2 dogs and 2 cats (not her fault, she's just frightened of them) and so spends her whole day sleeping in the laundry room. She's a really quiet cat and very affectionate, she just needs somewhere to rest and people to love her. She would be suitable for absolutely anyone including busy people at work all day as long as they give her some attention and love. She would be best without other animals as she's not used to them and really just prefers people company. She would be fine in an apartment or a villa. If anyone would be willing to offer this old lady a nice home please let me know. (Pictures to follow)
