Does anyone have any recommendations of resorts in the maldives for families. We would like to go somewhere nice (DH and I will be celebrating our 40th's), but will have the kids with us

Bump, did you find out anymore Ceese? we also have 2 small people and are looking at Maldives but when i done a search this Iru Fushi hotel didn't come up on agoda.com Just put in Hilton - it's the only hilton in the maldives so it should come up on the search. the other one in the gruop is the Conrad Rangali resort which is supposed to be amazing too. <em>edited by Clairehdp on 31/01/2011</em>

The beach villas all have their own private garden with a gazebo onto the beach - you could easily put the kids to bed - leave the door open onto your private garden and have a lovely meal delivered that you eat on your patio - saves on a baby sitter and you are right outside having a romantic dinner and the kids are safely asleep. In the beach villas there is seating under the window and this turns into a lovely bed. We just had another bed brought in and the kids adored it.

I was going to book flights separate with Emirates but the travel agents quoted the full package (I selected which flights I wanted), the Hilton looks great but we have decided to try Lily Beach which is all inclusive and it's also got great reviews. I think the price I was quoted was a few hundred Dirhams cheaper than booking myself with Agoda and they offered up to 3% discount if you pay cash.

Do you think its my search criteria? ive put in 2 adults and 2 children? Yes it could be, I was only searching for 2 adults. Try changing the search criteria so you find the hotel and then I think you can send an inquiry to customer services. I've also had some quotes from the travel agents in AR and they have been competitively priced. I think they also offered half board package for this hotel. HTH

Homesick, would you mind elaborating why you liked the Hilton? It had bad reviews on trip advisor but I am always wary of the reviews on there as competitors post phony reviews... Was it good for kids? How does it compare to Dubai standards? Is there much nightlife? Thanks ever so much!! Any other Maldives advice for two kids under four gratefully received... We have been to Iru Fushi twice with both our kids and we have had the best holidays there. I can't imagine what was so bad on trip advisor. Service was outstanding, food was excellent, the rooms are lovely, housekeeping exceptional and rose in the kids club is a complete and utter star! If you ask my 2 where they would like to go on holiday they always say Iru Fushi! The only thing that is a bit of a pain is that it's quite a long seaplane flight which is expensive but.......it's sooooo worth it! The food and bev team used to be at the Westin here in Dubai! We stayed in a beach villa and we had 1 extra bed as the window settee turned into a bed. It's still one of my most favourite places.

Hi Homesick, thanks so much for repyling in more detail...another question as I really want to get this 100per cent! We are a family of four, two kids 2 and 4' do they have family rooms? On trip advisor (my favourite website at the mo) a lot of people recommend the jacuzzi beach villa but there are no details of this type on their website! We will want to go out in the evenings so would want a babysitter and obviously the room has to accommodate that... Do we need to book two rooms? I'd be so grateful if you answer this as we have made bad holiday decisions before and don't want to repeat it!! Many thanks in advance

I can second Bandos as family friendly...very close to Male, nice accomodation (we had two adjoining rooms next to a beach), OK food, fantastic diving (considered one of the best house reefs in the Maldives). We went when my daughter was 5 and she still asks to to back!

they were very child friendly, very pregnant lady friendly lol( was 5 months preggers) the buffet food was good with theme nights good for kids too- the on stilts restaurant was some of the best seafood (Japanese i think) we ever had. the kiddie/family pool was very comfy and the kids club was clean, open and useable with friendly 'child-aware' staff and they let u borrow toys etc for the pool or ur rooms. the waiting staff were attentive to a tee -even with numerous dropped spoons etc and offered to take ds for a wonder around while we ate on 'he is driving us insane' moments lol. nightlife wise we didnt really have one apart from fact that you can take ur toddlers/wee ones with you to the beachside bar with live bands or soul nghts - very calm and chilled out - and soo fab seeing the flourescent sand thingies and fishies at night. we went to the local island and saw dolphins too - the capt even made an extra long journey so we could catch some more pics/sights and ds even got to 'man' the boat :) <em>edited by homesickk on 03/01/2011</em>

i would second iru fushi too (hope i have spelt it correctly) also rather than go through agents/agencies etc call the hilton (the only hotel on the island) and ask them for the manager and their direct prices and then use either emirates or flights as it works out much cheaper - based on last february prices. hth.

We've been to Bandos twice in our 4 trips over the years to the Maldives. Bandos is extremely family-friendly & is only 20 minutes by speedboat from the airport which cuts out the expensive seaplane option. We love it so much there that we'd even consider going again. Sun Island is good but it's a large island & you need to hire bicycles there to get around & also has an expensive seaplane trip added onto the cost. Avoid Meedhupparu - ugh. We've used mal hyphen dives dot com for all our bookings. HTH

We are in the same boat and still looking at different options... I have two recommendations for websites: www.expedia.com and www.agoda.com, both are advertising much cheaper rates than the hotels themselves...expedia also includes the flights in the price! So far the prices I have seen are half of those on the resort websites... Good luck!

Meeru(fenfushi) - www.meeru.com 1hr by boat from the airport (north), also 45mins on speedboat that you can book privately for approx $100pp each way, or there is now seaplanes (daytime only). There are many activities for kids, including fishing, golfing etc. Night activities include families and kids too. With kids you want to make sure there are enough activities and the boat ride is not too far - avoid the 6hr boat journey to Kuredu (not a nice resort either), no matter how cheap their offers look! I have friends who have done Laguna Beach and Bandos but not sure about kids/families.

My daughter (15) and I went to the Lily Beach Resort and Spa - it was fantastic. Snorkeling, incredible food, boating, fantastic water villas - I can't say enough about it. We will go back! http://www.lilybeachmaldives.com/

For a trip with kids I would recommend sun island resort, it's kids fiendly and big enough to get them busy exploring ... I've been to Velidhu as well, very nice but very small island, its mainly for couples , I think kids would be bored soon ! Lucky you !! Enjoy your trip, Maldives is a fab destination :)
