Hi Ladies
I need some guidance! I'm joining my husabnd in Dubai soon, and he has just informed me we need to get our marriage certificate which was issued in Mauritus attested. I am currently in the UK and wondered where to begin.............! Can I get this done in Dubai or do I have to go to the UAE embasy in London.

Currently very confused, and thought someone on this forum may have gone through a similar process.

Many thanks for your replies (if any!)

Hi Ladies I had my marriage certificate attested after arriving in Dubai at the UAE Foreign Affairs dept. I also thought that it had to be attested by your home country so I went to the Australian consulate here in Dubai but when I presented it with the paperwork for my Residence Permit I was told that I didn't need this and I had to go to the UAE Foreign Affairs dept instead. Next day I went to the Foreign Affairs dept showed my passport and marraige cert and it was done in about 10 minutes. I would suggest still getting the attestation from your home county first (either at the embassy here or before you arrive)and present the cert with this already on it for the Foreign Affairs dept to attest also. I used the copy I previously had attested from the Aust consulate just in case as it still strikes me as strange that they really don't want any proof of authenticity from the issuing country??

Question for Mellie781: Im in a similiar postion, I too am about to fly to Dubai to join my husband but have to get the marriage cert attested. Its alittle easier for me as I live in NZ but was married in Australia. My husband told me that I have to get it legalised by our government in NZ then courier the marriage cert to the UAE embassy in Australia for them to attest it. Is this correct....or does it have to be all done in Australia edited by NZfamily on 19/08/2011

Not sure if this has been sorted, as your original post was a few days ago now. You need to get it attested several times. Firstly, by the country in which you were married. Then by the UAE embassy in the country in which you were married. So, for us, we were living in London but were married in Australia. I had to fly to Australia and get it attested by the Australian government there. Then drive 6 hours (round trip) from Sydney to Canberra to have the UAE embassy attest it. You can get this done via post... Good luck!
