I am very sad to be leaving Dubai- we only found out yesterday so still in shock, I like it here a lot, have settled in nicely, lots of friends, great for kids but what to do now. Anyway, before leaving what do you recommend me to do that would be hard in other places? I was thinking about tea at the Burj and Ferrari World. Any other suggestions?

Also, I'd like to buy a 'something' typical from Dubai, any ideas? Someting arabic/emirati.

Thanks

sorry you hear you are having to leave. I would second the Seawings flight - it's amazing. I'd definitely do the afternoon tea at the burj al arab I'd stay at Atlantis for a night as they have special resident rates at the moment and do Aquaventure I'd definitely do Bab Al shams day pass and chill out in the desert there If you've not done it before do the Jumeirah Mosque tour Captain Jacks Dhow cruise from the marina - nice to see new dubai from the sea a desert safari bubbalicious brunch at the westin or brunch at Al Qasr Dinner at le petit maison I'd definitely buy some lamps to take home - I think they are beautiful lit at night and would remind you of all the hotels that have them dotted around. Good luck and enjoy the time you have left here.

Oh, and we picked up a lovely coffee pot and a small camel figurine at that touristy shop in the big malls. (sorry...can never think of it's name!) Everything in those shops looks awful IN the shop...but it's all cheap and now that we have these items in Australia and dotted in amongst our other things, they draw lovely comments from visitors. :) Every time I look at my coffee pot, I'm reminded of the coffee pot roundabouts :D and coffee & dates with car salesmen in Al Awir.

Great suggestions Green-ish, i really like the lamp idea, not being into jewellery much. ( what's a leather thong?) Just the strand of leather to put the pendant on...as opposed to a silver chain. :)

Would really recommend a SeaWings flight over Dubai. Took my parents when they were over and it was amazing and gives you a really special view of Dubai. The added bonus is they are in the voucher book! Sorry, this has sweet Fanny Adams to do with must do and see before leaving - but does anyone know if there is a tourist map of the skyline of Dubai with all the skyscrapers named, along with the area they're in? The only two I can recognize are the Burj Al Arab and the Burj Khalifa - what do they call the double imitation Chrysler Towers, for example?

I really wished we'd bought an Arabic style lamp/lantern before we left...just a gorgeous little something that could light up a corner somewhere as a reminder of our time in that part of the world. The lovely Embo brought something very special home for me a few weeks ago. I was so disappointed that I just couldn't afford the Arabic name necklaces for my girls...gold is SO expensive at the moment! However, Embo found someone who has done them in silver and they are GORGEOUS! I'm particularly loving the 'surfer dude' style one on a leather thong that she had made for my son. :)

Thank you for the suggestions! I have seen some of the other emirates but not Sharjah so I'll definitely go there. Went a few times with the abra, the souks, Bastakya and cultural breakfast. Can't affort a night at the Burj but I'll try for the tea! Also, where can I buy some arabic art?

Drive out of town and check out the other Emirates. Love walking around Sharjah's creek area. Viewing platform at the Burj Khalifa/dinner at the new restaurant there Spend a night at the Burj Al Arab Camp in the Desert Go to Musandam in Oman and do the Dhow trip around the fjords to see the dolphins

Go for a wander around the Bastakiya and creek area (if not done so already) - nice place to take photos too.. couldn't agree more- have a private abra ride (100 dh), walk through the textile souk and bastakiya and right along to the old sheikh's house. stunning down there and such a great vibe.
