If you check this link - you will see there was an earthquake in India around this time (I think they are an hour and a half ahead of us. 20.14 would take us to about quarter to 7 but maybe it takes a little while for them to travel...) - I wonder if it could've been aftershocks from that. We are in Jumeira 2 close to Dubai Ladies Club and we felt them too http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/quakes_all.html MAP 5.0 2012/06/19 20:14:05 23.631 70.214 22.5 GUJARAT, INDIA

That's what I was thinking, hope it doesn't happen again tonight or I will be freaked out. If it is building work there is a good chance it could happen again tonight, it's getting near the time!!!

3 times last night, didn't notice the day before. Can't remember exact times, but first must have been around 7.20, the next about 7.30 with the last one which was the strongest coming about 8pm.

Can people give some indication of which street they are in/near (Without giving their identities away lol) - it would be quite interesting to plot and see if they are along a line or near the Avenue construction or what? Manara street, Um suqeim 1 edited by sima on 20/06/2012

It seems that this type of unexplained shaking has been reported in the US as far back as the 1850s scientists speculate that these "booms" are probably small shallow earthquakes that are too small to be recorded, but large enough to be felt by people nearby. http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread814090/pg1

http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/minor-tremors-off-dubai-ncms-denies-earthquakThe National Center of Meteorology '&' Seismology (NCMS) has denied media reports of an earthquake last night which hit south of Iran and felt by residents in UAE residents, Wam said. The Center said in a statement today that the last seismic activity monitored by the national network for monitoring earthquakes in south of Iran was at 9:16 am yesterday. The magnitude of the tremor was 4.2 on the Richter scale, about 400 km away from the country. Therefore it was not possible to feel intensity of the earthquake due to its weak power and far-off proximity, the centre added.

:) not if it was travelling[i'> faster[/i'> than the speed of sound ahaa! ;) But there would have been a boom.... I asked DH and he said you may not have heard a noise but just felt the vibration, which is what i'm sticking with ;) - haven't read articles though, has anything been confirmed? still don't think it was earthquake or lights would have shook. I also always feel sick/dizzy when there is an earthquake (am very in touch with the inner earth lol) and didn't feel a thing.

http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/environment/uae-hit-by-tremors-after-iran-earthquake-1.130693 During that 'event' I was in a higher floor of the Dubai Hospital with DD. We just went dizzy as the building swayed from side to side, the window rattled and the bed slid a bit, but I do not remember any fixtures moving. I would imagine if it had been sliding glass doors then they would have really shook. There is a Professor at the American University who knows more, and I am sure that with some research you could find him and ask his opinion.

I was speaking to my daughter's nursery teacher about it who has lived here for a long time. She was saying that once a year you get little tremors here but mostly concentrated on one single line running near SZR so some people hear nothing at all. Thinking that's what it was now. See there was some movements recorded in Fujayrah this morning and Ra's al Khaymah yesterday so maybe it's been rumblings from that.Just hope it doesn't happen tonight again as I'm in on my own!! http://seismology.ncms.ae/ edited by Spicy pepper on 20/06/2012

hmmm could very possibly be a plane...but wouldn't you have heard it? So bizarre.....didn't feel anything in the Springs. Seems to be mostly Jumeirah / Umm Sequim area which I guess is nearer the beach? Maybe a plane going out to sea? edited by MissFortune on 20/06/2012

I'm tempted to second (or third!) the aircraft idea. I live in Mirdif and at the times of airshow where there are a LOT of loud, heavy and fast jets overhead the windows shake enormously (and nothing else), it's pretty frightening. I was also at the beach in Umm Sequim at the weekend and heard, but didn't see some type of fighter jet overhead - incredibly loud and for several seconds. Don't be scared it's daylight now :)

still thinking the sonic aircraft thing. if it were an earthquake everything would shake (light fittings) not just windows.
