Hi Everyone,

I am new to Dubai and after going to a few mum and tot groups I hear I need to get my 16month old DD on school waiting lists sooner rather than later. The trouble is...I dont even know where to begin. I have been on the government website to check out the KHDA reports but I have a list of 21 schools who have a "good" or above. So the question is where do I begin?

If anyone has and words of wisdom on any of this it would be greatly appreciated. No matter how small or big, I'm completely new to it all so need all the help I can get.

Thanks :)

First find out which schools would have place for your child. Some schools have terribly long waiting lists and wont accept any new applications. Also which curriculum ( US,UK,IB,INTL). And then of course the school fees.

Map of Dubai schools. http://www.gis.gov.ae/portal/page/portal/GIS_PORTAL/E-STORE/FreE-Maps/Schools.pdf Thanks for the map. Ive had a look and out of the 21 schools I have with a decent KHDA report only 5 of them are on this map. Am I missing something really obvious?

Thank you. Well, we want UK curriculum as we might not be here forever so need her to be able to integrate back into the UK system if needs be. We are going to be living at Dubai Media City for at least 3 years so it would need to be in that area. Do you know any pros or cons to primary only or the combination? Is there a school map anywhere where you can see what schools are local to the place you will be living? I've had a search around but can't seem to find anything.

First step would be decide on a curriculum: British, American, PYP etc. Then Perhaps start by breaking it down by area. For example, there is no point having say Repton on your list if you live in the Marina. Then decide if you want a school that is primary only or primary and secondary. Then make another short list and visit the schools or even ty and attend social things at the school like fairs/fetes etc and get a feel for the school community.
