Any recommendations of where to go and what to do - something special for New Year - in or close to London? Would like to celebrate in style with friends.

We have done the Marriott at County Hall twice - it is magical. You have a meal in the beautiful restaurant, then just before midnight go out onto the private terrace with a glass of champagne and watch the fireworks as Big Ben across the river strikes 12. It is the most amazing fireworks display and so special. Good luck though. We booked in Feb last time!!

How many of you in total? Might be a little late now but a great option is to hire a stunning villa/masion/castle somewhere! If you're staying in London. Go for an early meal somewhere central, like china town if that suits all tastes then head down to embankment for the fireworks! You have tonget there early though! Around 10:30 as the police limit the numbers allowed down there! If you're in then it's great as you're not packed in like sardines! Take some drinks with you and just enjoy the atmosphere until the display starts! If you need to catch the tube anywhere, it's an easy walk to the stations and if you let the growds go ahead of you the roads become a liitle easier to get around in! Clubs and restaurant deals are always the same I find. You might as well be anywhere in the world! But the countdown by the London eye is truly memorable and you can't beat hearing the sounds of Big Ben as you watch the fireworks!
